Worship Bass Pedalboards

Current church board. Sounds waaaay better in the audience than through my IEM's!

Lots of people use the novation Bass Station. But for real bass synth tone, it’s Moog.
I get what you mean but I would say that for a real bass Moog tone, it’s Moog. The Bass Station has very real bass synth tones, but if you want Moog, get Moog.

From their literature “The Bass Station range has featured in many popular productions, used by artists including Massive Attack, Orbital, Everything Everything, Josh Wink, Nine Inch Nails, Super Furry Animals, Underworld, Apollo 440, RZA (Wu Tang Clan), Radiohead, Jimi Tenor, Laurent Garnier, and Sneaker Pimps to name just a few. ”

Maybe those don’t say much to you but as a former electronica musician I thought it was worth defending the Bass Station as more than a Moog wannabe :)

I wasn't necessarily pro or con Bass Station, just that you see it used a lot. There's also Korg and Roland with nice little "mini key" options. I started with a Korg. I like the full size keys on the Yamaha, as well as the sound, better but I don't need 64 keys. I would probably have a Moog Sub 25 except that the cover band does some 80's stuff and the Moog does not do the "DX7" thing at all. The Yamaha MODX6 is of course, spot on.

Yep. Everyone is gaga over the Sub 37 which is arguably one of the best synths made. But as a bass player, I think the Sub 25 is plenty. 16 presets is more than enough. It’s a little less complicated than the Sub 37, too, and less expensive. And it sounds awesome. MOOG!

This is part of the dilemma I have. My first instrument is piano, in which I have years of experience on, so part of me thinks the Sub37 would be a great choice. However, like you said, the Sub 25 is significantly cheaper.
Anyone else here use a Moog?

Not only cheaper, but I think easier to use. I had a Sub 37 for a couple weeks and sent it back. It was just too much. Too many knobs. Too many options. I think a Sub 25 is more user friendly, especially if you are going to do mostly bass stuff. If you need a full on lead with sequencer and all that, yeah a Sub 37. But if you're ""just a bass player" looking for some good synth sounds, Sub 25 all the way.

This is my situation precisely. I don’t think anyone that I play with would really care but it bothers me sometimes to not be able to get the perfect synthesizer tone out of my bass and pedals. Since piano is my first instrument with 30+ years of playing it, I think it’s probably dumb that I don’t have one of these smaller keyboard options. Lol

And while some players get GREAT synth sounds via pedals, there are some things that do just seem to sound better on a synth. I think as much because you play differently as the sound itself. I go back and forth a lot, but hauling a bigger pedal board or bringing a synth is about the same. And I maybe look cool because I do 2 things. Also have a backup for our keys guy if his rig goes down. Or if my bass rig does I guess.

The way I see it, a bass will never sound like a true analog synth, and a synth will never sound like a synth electric bass. Both are just tools in the toolbox.

@SemiDriven how do you like the Finally?

Like it.

The Finally is a Space Heater with a DI. Really adds some tone warmth (and some hair if you want it to)!

Haven't yet had the chance use at a band gig -- when that happens, I'll have to convince our sound guy to XLR out from the Finally rather than the amp.

Use it once at church so far (I play once-a-month). Can't really appreciate it as much as I want to (IEM's), but the person running the board as well as various individuals like the tone.

anyone still using a Fairfield accountant?

been awhile since ive been on here.
That was one of my early favorites 2-3 years back in my compressor search. But having tried so many other since, the Fairfield is comparatively noisy/hissy. But great compression action, especially if you want a dirty comp.

I’ve liked at both. It seems more people go for the HX Stomp. I’m debating trying effects. I don’t need/use many or often, but my requirements are that it has to fit on my Nano with my Rolls box for my IEM’s and maybe the tuner depending on how the multi is set up.

The Boss looks interesting as well. Either are expensive, but still the same or less than me getting individuals as I’d need a bigger board and case and I still have the REDDI so although I’m not fond of menus, a multi makes the most sense.
