I use the Hudson Broadcast and I find that it is really good for church settings. I have low gain on when I want a bit of a grit but nothing over the top. For example, Your Love Awakens Me or Glorious Day. If I want to go more synth bass, then I kick on the fuzz and mix it with some other effects.
Plus, it also has a HPF which is quite nice.

I tend towards a clean tone, but there’s some points I use a mildly overdrive. SVT model on the HX stomp to get a bit of grit going and fill out the sound a bit …
If I got rid of the stomp these suggestions are good - anyone tried a Mojomojo? Price wise hard to beat

Drives. What do you all use? The Darkglass stuff is too much. I want some drive occasionally - more for cover band - but I figure a church level drive is about right.

The problem with most drive demos - they are all over the top. Maybe I just need to wait until the Mn GTG and spend the Saturday before in the big city trying stuff out.

I have the DG Vintage Microtubes and honestly, it goes from zero drive at all to a nice broken up tube amp. Lots of range and you can blend you bass signal as much or little as you want.

Have the Tech 21 DP3-X dUg pedal. It can be used as a clean preamp with tuner and XLR out and compression and eq, and then you can kick on the chunk and drive channels and blend them from something with a little hair to something ridiculously gnarly.

Have the EHX Bass Microsynth. Very cool pedal that you can get synthy/fuzzy drive from and a world of other stuff like octave and sub octave and filter sweep with attack and resonance.

I watched the Grizzly drive pedal demos and while I haven't bought one yet, thought it was like my VMT where you can use very subtly or get some good grind going.

I definitely hear a difference when I run a HPF at 40-50Hz in our room. Not sure about the Thumpinator and/or 29Hz.

Honestly, I'd snag this instead for a 4 string and get the adjustability of that HPF frequency: For Sale - fdeck HPF Series 3 High Pass Filter

generally yes but it depends where you have it in your signal chain and why you’re using it.
Typically it keeps the subs out of your amp - but if you’re going direct like a lot of church setups the desk will probably have a HPF of some kind…

This is true. One thing to keep in mind (for some churches) is whether your IEM feed (assuming you are using IEMs) is pre-FoH or post. Ours is pre. So what I hear in my ears is before the desk. So in my case, the desk's HPF does not impact what I am hearing through monitors. Only what FoH hears.

just ran into that somewhere I was filling in, everyone’s was pre except the drummers which turned out to be post and so any changes the sound guy made affected his ears. Luckily, we figured that out before it was “go time”

where I find LPF more valuable is set a bit higher frequency wise so the di signal I’m sending to desk is a better approximation of what a bass cab would be putting out. I do this in my stomp at the moment but just built a Vong filterung kit to do the same thing.

I dont know. I never have my HPF set that low. It is usually 40-50Hz (with about a 12db slope) and I can hear the difference when set there.

I prefer the Broughton HPF where you can set the frequency to the room or system. I tend to play and turn the frequency higher until it stops sounding good and back it off to just below that. Would not care for a set-frequency model.

Signal chain is Hotone tuner - Aguilar TLC - Amptweaker Bass Tight Drive - Mooer Black Secret (rat clone) - Boss Bass Chorus - Mesa Subway DI, powered by an old but trusty Yankee power supply (Polish brand)

I tend swap the rat clone around with some other pedals depending on the set list, but it does allow me to pull some synth-bass lines when needed.

I used to have a H9 in place of the chorus, but it has unfortunately developed a hardware fault (and my other one lives on my guitar pedalboard). I also have an Aguilar octamizer on the way.

Wow -- that Hotone tuner is small! I might have to get out my reading glasses to see that.

it is small, but plenty bright. I was surprised at how effective it was, ended up selling my PolyTune, got two of them and still had some spare change (before the pandemic started)

So I tried the all in one infinity, and it just didn’t work for me. I know people love and get great sounds from various digital devices, but I don’t think I’ll be one of them. I do need something g to replace the Big Muff but it works for now.

Lil Fella is cheap and super versatile. They come up in the classifieds all the time for $120. Certainly more versatile and suited to low gain than a Muff.

I love my EHX green Russian muff. I had a bass muff and like this way better. Even without a dry blend. Lots of bass and plenty of variability in saturation.

What do you not like about the Big Muff?

It’s ok. The issue is that it’s really subtle and if I set it to be more aggressive the volume difference between on and bypassed is pretty too significant. I think I need a pedal that has a blend. I like that in my Empress compressor for example, so I can run some unaffected signal along with the effected signal.
