Worship Bass Pedalboards

Quick question, guys. Does any of you own/have any experience with the Boss Line Selector? If so, how do you use it? I got it earlier this year to explore different signal chain options with it but I ended up complicating my board more than anything else. I was using it either as an A/B channel for clean/synth bass tones or as a blend between both, but I find it gets a little noisy when using the A+B option (apparently, this isn't uncommon with this pedal).

Had it listed for sale locally and someone offered a trade, but he backed out at the last second, so I'm thinking about trying the LS-2 again whenever I have time this week to rewire my whole pedalboard :help:

Here's what it looked like before I took the LS-2 out (I have since got a couple more EBS flat patch cables, so it looks a bit better now):
Bass into the Polytune and then into the Boss.
Loop A: Tone Hammer for the "clean with a bit of dirt" tone.
Loop B: everything else except the Element.
Then the LS-2 into the Element, and that to FOH.

Out of curiosity, what are you running for a preset on your element I. This configuration. It looks like you are also using it as your direct out.

I have some questions on pedal placement and options. I have a Bass MicroSynth but only use it for a bethel type tone. So I got a C4 to replace it and am wondering if this is the correct placement for it. I also have the ability to put a LS-2 in and route all of them separately including the compressor. So I can have a clean path from tuner to tone hammer then hit the LS-2 to put the extra grit in or reverb etc.

that’s how I would run it. bass >> tuner >> compressor >> any effects pedals >> pre amp/DI to FOH

As in I'm going to give it a try. Don't have room for both.

Cool. I am interested to hear more thoughts. I have always ignored it because of the mixed opinions here but the demos sound pretty good. I am looking for that mild tubey grind still myself. I have crazy fuzz (at least as far as CCM is concerned) in my Sushi/ Kitten. So reading what I can about the Pork Loin, the BSF, the MBD2 and several others before deciding. I tend to like weird or at least non mainstream and I have to get over that in favor of the sound. :)

I always appreciate everyone's input. Lots of love for a couple of drive pedals here. I liked what I heard in demos of the BSF, it was in stock at a local shop (they do a lot for me so I like to throw some business their way) and it's pretty affordable. Also has a good name. I don't use a lot of drive, so if I can get a decent sound I'll be happy.

Have you looked at the Origin Effect Hacylon? Some people on the forum have used it and said it worked well on bass as a drive pedal.

I wish I had a local shop but I do not. So, I tend to support here or small builders if I can. I keep thinking that I will get tired of a "board" and go back to digital but I can't decide which works best for me yet. Time will tell. Hoping to play Sunday but with the hurricane just east of my territory, I may go that way Saturday and help out- so I'd miss practice....

We'll see!

@SteveC any thoughts on the BSF yet? I bought one for a second time a while back, after not feeling I tried it out fully the first time. From memory I just tried it at home, not actually during a Sunday service. I need to give it some more time, I’m not a fan of the mega loud EHX on/off switch in general which doesn’t help.

My head spins with overdrive pedals as I’m never sure exactly what I’m after. I suppose a kind of light, mild overdrive / extra grit / touch of hair, that’s not too aggressive or coloured. But then I sort of like the trebly grind / crunch that the BSF can give too. I’m not one for fuzz or ‘wasp in a tin can’ ODB-3 type sounds either.

I have a VMT but still haven’t landed on a setting I love yet, and I’m not sure about the ‘baked-in’ Darkglass vibe. I have a One Control Hooker’s Green Machine (3 knob) on the way to try, as I quite like the thought of a mini drive on my Nano board. When the Green Machine comes I’ll have to set aside some time to put all 3 through their paces and try them all on a Sunday when I can try them out on a song that is good with some extra drive (something like This Is Amazing Grace).

Our services go up on YouTube so I can at least go back and hear what the bass sounds like. If it’s even audible in the online mix of course!

You really should try a source audio aftershock or ultrawave. So much tweakability that you end up spending time tweaking the pedal instead of more money flipping pedals.
And then you can run a fuzz and drive at the same time on low gain or mix and get the grit and fizz and color at the same time

Downsize and rewire underway.

Original layout included an EHX String9, but it didn't make the cut. Sounds good on guitar, can't hack it in the bass rig, much to my disappointment. The SY-200 goes back on, and the extra TT-2 kicks off the Wampler Belle. I like it, but I'm going to have to count on the Stomp drives to do it for me.

Now I get to go back to Sweetwater to get some new Barefoot Buttons for correct color coding. ...maybe I'll get the Empress Compressor now that they're carrying it...

Haven’t even unboxed it yet. I’m out of town for a couple days with my son. Going to hear Iron Maiden tomorrow night for his 13th bday. I hope to get some tone with it later this week. I thought the videos sounded good. I like to have a Blend control. I’d rather not even have a drive as finding one sucks, but for the cover band more than church, I need something for a few tunes.
