Pretty much. It's been over a decade since I've owned either, which is extremely ironic given my history, so I figured I should at least have a 'Bethel Board' on hand for when I get called to fill in where that sound is bread and butter.

Has anyone tried the tone factor HX Stomp patches for bass? Adam Kiser, Tanner Erickson, and Matt Ogden all have a Microsynth patch in their rig downloads. Any idea of the differences in them? Is one better than the others? I have one from Adam Truitt but I have never owned a real BMS so I have no idea how any of them actually compare.

I tried the David Curran BMS patch on the stomp and it sounded a bit like a toy BMS.

For anyone trying to get a BMS tone on their rig without the expense and size of the BMS, I have found that the Broughton Calamity Big Muff clone after an Octave device is very very big sounding and gets close. I also tried the Pork and Pickle fuzz and it's not even close to the hugeness of the Calamity/Octave combo. For those week where I need a BMS-type big chorus but don't need the exact Bethel BMS signature tone, the Calamity/Octave works great. Plus, the Calamity by itself makes for a good OD tone (the fuzziness gets diluted in the mix). I'm very happy with the Calamity.

The only real negative with BMS is the appalling octave tracking, it really is one of the fussiest pedals that I have ever owned!

Can confirm. And I just so happen to have a Calamity if someone wants to downsize from the BMS

I find that the BMS works best finger style plucked closer to the neck. Hard to resist digging in with pick, however. You watch Bryce Vaughn videos and he is slamming away on his BMS with a pick and it sounds great.
