I know I promised no more updates...but I lied.

Super Pre back off the board. I love it more stand alone, and I can run a board in front of it should I want to.

DCX Bass is sold. Lovely pedal for end of chain clean/slight break up but I have that covered. Overdrive wasn't to my taste.

Agro V2 arrived. I have the V1 and love it, the V2 does seem like it is voiced a little different as I have fairly different dial positions to get my tone. I am essentially back to my previous board with the DCX but a far better layout.

Looks great, Rock. I’m basically a member emeritus of Worship Bass clubs until and unless we move churches. They need me on the sound board SOOO badly lol.

So I am down to 20 or so and selling a few off now and trying to get down to a “home” board and an “out”
board! Gonna regret it one day but my house is small!

BUT- Love the C2C Particle Accelerator pushed by- anything really. I can’t get into tube compressors. Oh man lol.

Does that LA-1A sound as good as I imagine it does? I feel like I need that in my life

I feel like the LA-1A just makes any non tube preamp warmer/better. Before a THDI is my all time favourite.

I subscribe to the too much of a good thing theory though. I feel like it goes mushy/ loses too much definition in front of a tube amp for instance.

Quick question about using this pedal in live worship. I am mirroring the settings of most modern worship bassist (Gateway, Bethel, Elevation, etc.) I see on YouTube .

I notice that there is a significant gain/boost when I turn it on during my rehearsal time at home.

Do most of you adjust the attenuation inside the back cover so it does not boost during activation?

Or, do you use the slider to adjust the gain? If slider, which one?

Or, is it normal to have it boost when you use it? Is this part of the secret sauce?

I have found fuzz to be very particular about which bass I use. The fuzz on my Stomp sounds great with my P5. I have the gain and volume set just right. When I use my J5, it has a huge volume boost. I don't have a ton of experience with the BMS, so I don't know the answer, but some effects are more fussy than others.
The other thing I would say is that I've copied some of the Bethel TH settings to try it out. With my bass, it sounds bad. But, if I lower the volume knob on my bass it sounds really good. So, I'm assuming that a lot has to do with the bass's output.

Yes the internal trim pot is for exactly this. However, I want about 3db boost when my microsynth kicks in because it’s always in the big drops of the song.

I played around with the trim pot numerous times and have unity gain for the guitar slider at about 80%. I haven't had a chance to use my BMS in a service yet as I haven't been rostered or I have had work commitments since I got it. Some of the settings I see on yT are just way to loud/aggressive for my taste when I copy the settings. There was one I found that I loved the tone of (he was also emulating it with his HXS), but when I use that much of the square drive slider it sounds great until I let notes sustain, as they start to take off. What I think he is doing is running it into a dirt pedal (in this case a YYZ) which seems to stop it from taking off/getting too aggressive. I found another clip of a rig run down where they take about running a dirt pedal after the BMS to "keep it under control". Like @projectapollo said somewhere, the slider settings you see don't exactly tell you about the gain staging, eq etc going into the pedal so we aren't getting the entire picture, so setting to what works for you/us from what we hear is the best way.

Because I am running the BMS in an fx loop of the HXS it has allowed me to move stuff around it in the signal path easily to see how it impacts the BMS, and certainly running dirt after (either an outboard pedal or within the HXS) seems to take the edge off the BMS. It seems counter intuitive but it seems to work. It works better than running a limiter after the BMS IMO.

What I have found from using the BMS is that it has giving me better understanding of how the 3 effects within it interact and I have programmed HXS patches that are better than I had previously to emulate these tones. That may be the way I go moving forward. I haven't decided.

These are just my opinions and based on my experience with this pedal over a few weeks, so take them with a pinch of salt. I just wanted to share in case it helps. Please let me know your thoughts as I am eager to use the pedal better.

I agree and also find that the LA-1A can get too undefined all on it's own. I run one towards the front of my chain with a boost in front to goose the tubes. I run the actual compression on it very very low. It's an expensive compressor that I use more as a preamp.

I don't have a Noble but at the end of my audio party I have my only other box o' tubes in a Nobelium. Everything in between those two devices are in a tube sandwich. If I put the LA-1A in the rear with the Nobelium it gets dark-ish and loses definition for my tastes. Now that I think about it, I'll try it again if I'm looking for vintage sounds.

I brought the Sushibox Neptunium to rehearsal tonight even though I’m only playing piano and guitar for service this week… sadly. It’s very nice, and worth the price imo. The bass boosted with the hpf engaged is just the perfect bass eq. On top of that it’s the first active DI that’s completely silent in our PA.

It is a little redundant having the DCX and Neptunium though. They impart a very similar kind of eq/saturation/compression (minus hpf). Man…if only they made the DCX with a transformer DI out…eh @Origin_Effects ?

Cali76 + a drive + the neptunium would be a perfect compact board.

Side note: I’ll be listing my sushibox finally v1 soon with clean and dirty tube options. If anyone here is interested they get first dibs.

I had an LA-1A in front of a REDDI and I thought while it was fine, it was kind of wasted. The REDDI gave me the tube sound. I preferred an Empress Bass Compressor in front of my REDDI. Before I got the REDDI, I used the Empress as my compressor and the balanced out as my "DI" and I thought it worked great for that. Kind of killed two birds with one stone.

I'm sticking with the Stomp again this week. I added a touch of compression and it's not bad. Not bad at all. With the Cali76, I had it set up for some color, which was nice, but it was always there. With the Stomp comp, I'm using it much more subtly. It's barely doing anything, but it's set about where I want it. I put it on footswitch one just so I can kick it off if it doesn't translate in the sanctuary. Switch 2 is the Teemah drive (for Goodbye Yesterday). Swith 3 is chorus (for Same God). The keyboard synth will be set up for House of the Lord. Goodness of God will have some drive for the bridge and final chorus.
If the comp passes the live test, then I will put it on the master channel. And move on to see what else I can dig up with it.
