Worship Bass Pedalboards

The campus where I MD has a Jule Monique birdcage as the DI before FOH. One of my vintage p-basses is the house bass and so fingers and dynamics provide a lot of the "gain staging."

At the moment the "pedalboard" has a tuner for the string bass, a tuner for the Moog synth bass, a voodoo power brick, and a JHS modded EHX Bass Soul Food. It's amazing how much I can get out of that because of how responsive that tube preamp/DI is.

Our house base is a classic vibe lol. A vintage P as a house bass would be amazing.

Those of you using a Moog or similar synth, what do you play through at home? I assume PA at church/venue but what about at home?

Here's a pic from when I had first gotten my MXR Bass Synth in. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I have managed a nice sub bass synth sound from it that is useful for a lot of songs. I'm still dialing in my "Bass MicroSynth"-y sound - haven't had many use cases for it lately.

Realistically, a nice squeeze from the compressor and the Tone Hammer is 90% of the tone. The drive and synth are nice to have, but by no means essential, Tone Hammer is definitely my favourite and best-value pedal I've ever bought.

To those with the MXR Bass Synth - do you have any tips for dialing in a BMS-y sound?

The church has a house Moog Sub25 that stays there, and so I bought on myself (I had been using a Moog Tribute Phatty for sub synth for years), so that I could make patches/presets at home. I also jumped on a Messenger recently because I was completely ignorant to its release and think it will be a fun alternative to the Phatty and Sub.

I don't really practice synth much at home. If I do, I have always ran them through my bass rigs, or PA, or interface into DAW, or just plugged into the headphone jack on the synth.

Clicked the "Worship Bass Pedalboard" thread link... and this is the first new post I see. Got to the last post, and still talking about synth's... I've had enough of this synth keyboard talk... tempting me, putting thoughts in my head rent free... I want to put an end to this madness... so I just ordered the Moog Messenger.

I don't look at this thread daily... so why did I have to click on this thread link today?

I thought synth bass was ubiquitous in worship at this point. What else do you do in the underscore sections? Certainly not play string bass.

Seriously though, @erayser you won't regret adding it to your setup.

By the way -- on the new JHS Morning Glory Clean, it was nice and pleasing drive tones, liked the top jacks. But it still did not replace the Tone Hammer DI w/AGS.

I'm not sure, but Amazon sells it direct with free returns so it's worth trying it. In my fiddling at home, I think it's more of a low gain bass pedal. For more dirt you have to tilt the blend away from clean and toward the dirt and the low end starts to thin out. For lighter saturation sounds, you can tilt toward plenty of direct clean, dial up the drive, and keep your bass tone intact with a nice layer of hair added on.

I use a Boss LS-2 pedal to blend my bass and synth into a single input into my Roll headphone amp.

any 2 input USB interface will be good for running synth into headphones. Most synths have a headphone out and an audio in so you can stand alone practice with them as is.

First use of the Mantle today. Our producer walked up to my board and immediately commented on getting the Mantle. I was surprised he had even heard of it. Additional pics of 6am sound checks, crowd gathering for second service, and the bass station.

FOH was pleased to see it on my board, sounded great in the IEMs, after third service two of the WLs (not leading today, both in the congregation) gave me enthusiastic thumbs up. It's so hard to say the contribution the Mantle made, but I was pleased with the solid professional tone. We did one hard rocking song written by the WL team. Then Way Maker and Who Else, used the Moog a good bit, and the BMS for ending big moment. The Greer Lightspeed gets a thumbs up replacing the Tone Hammer. My Fender CS-P continues to be the best tone I have in my collection.

Greer…interesting, will have to check it out. Where did you get the idea to use the Greer to replace the glorious and rarely dethroned Tone Hammer? (@projectapollo has the best looking Tone Hammer out there!).

We played Who Else for the first time this morning. I think my Moog would have been awesome on it. Just gotta to play it first lol

@NickyBass and that Worship Bass Coffee video I posted yesterday, watch around 1:09 to 1:14 - he mentions liking the Lightspeed as a TH substitute. So, I tried it today.
