Yes I played it Feb 22 at the mothership, posted some pics. The producer for the service recognized it on my board, I was quite surprised. My IEM experience was very good, every note was clear and defined. Felt good too. After trying a bunch of fancy preamp/DI, this one is sticking around, at least until my Noble is ready in October. The biggest surprise to me is the treble control. It's set up to really help enhance finger style definition without being harsh or zingy. It's tuned perfectly. The bass control, of course, adds lots of heft and punch. The Gain control is doing the transformer saturation thing and I'm less clear on what is happening or any preferred setting.
After working on the JHS Double Dragon at home, it's rapidly finding a place on my board. Josh was even thoughtful enough to put a buffered bypass in it so it can go first in chain and be your buffer.
Given the popularity of the bass microsynth and the fact that most are only using the gated square wave plus clean and sub octaves I'm surprised no one has put that exact circuit into a smaller pedal because some things come close but but it's a very unique sounding pedal.
This EHX design is so old, I am also surprised they never did a circuit update like you described. Remove a bunch of the faders and make it a cool Octave down/up/Fuzz much simpler pedal while retaining that signature sound. On the Double Dragon the +1 is overdriven making it piercing, but not that cool square wave BMS thing with all those lush overtones. But in the mix it still does that third level drive big moment feature pretty well.
The Double Dragon seems cool. How is it with the two footswitches close together?
We are doing Washed next service, so I'm putting the R1 on the board to cover that vibe. It doesn't have an octave up though.
I also threw the Noble back on. I want to run it with very little eq and see how it does.

How long will the Noble stick around on your pedalboard after you get it?
jk... but I enjoy all the different pedal combos on your pedalboard. My pedalboard is boring... since it never changes. I've fallen off on the GAS pedal... LOL... I've lot my desire to make any changes. But I do like seeing all the pedals people are using. Maybe someday I'll get the urge again.
I got a great deal on the new EHX Bass Big Muff Pi 2 Dual Op-Amp Fuzz. I will test this with my MXR Vintage Octave and my MXR Bass Synth to see if I can crank out some BMS sounds. I know, just get another BMS Rick...too big for my board now. I will report back...

.@wolffire99 is already a Noble convert, and not the fake HX Stomp or Anagram kind.
Be nice! No shame in changing things up. I'm not going on tour, don't need a permanently installed set of pedals, and tearing apart my board every week is just part of the hobby. Dual-lock is magic. I play a variety of churches and song sets and I enjoy curating my little 18" board for each set.How long will the Noble stick around on your pedalboard after you get it?
Seriously magic. My KHAN VTDI has some weight to it, and it feels permanently locked in under my pedalboard. Mounted it in April last year, and I have no worries of it falling off. I mainly use Dual-lock for everything mounted on the bottom of my pedalboard (CIoks DC7+9, Thumpinator, and KHAN). Next pedalboard, I'll use it for top and bottom.
Yeah, I've been on a year long effort to replace the BMS. The Octron 3 was close. Separate Octave/Fuzz was good. The MXR Bass Synth frightened me for live use. The Bit Commander was overcooked on all the octaves. Lately I'm back to the BMS and it does sound good. We'd love to hear how the new Bass Big Muff works. Anyone try the EHX Lizard King?
It's already pretty cheap, what was the great deal?
SA C4 can get close, and better IMO. You can do so much with it, but, is it's a PIA!

Does it provide pure octave down (ad/or up) or only more of a synth sound?

I don't even have a board. Just my Stomp and a tuner/mute as I have stuff assigned to all 3 buttons.
