worst band member

there's a lot of complaints bout drummers here. my drummer a pretty modest and quiet guy. but the worst member of my band if without a doubt, our guitarist/singer. he has got the biggest ego i've ever seen. i had no idea someone could thinks o much of themselves. he insists that he is the only musical genius, but then he shuts up (for about 10 minutes) when i show him something good that i've written. but the thing that annoys me and the drummer most is that he loves to hear himself talk and play. when we're having a practice and if there's even a moment's silence, he breaks it by turning his amp up and soloing like crazy. i mean he is really good at guitar but when your trying to talk and you get drowned out by his distortion, it really brings down the respect if have for him. another thing, he is always yelling at the drummer for even the littlest thing.

Ttotally the same as our guitarist, he think so much of himself, rejects me as a bass player, doesnt respect m,e int he slightest, ans think so much of himself. the worst thing.. He isnt even any good on guitar!!!!! he cant even play one ****ing song properly!

maan and he says im bad!? i can play nerly every blink 182 album. i know they aint very hard and well, they're very easy actually, but cummon at least me can be boferd and try. that ****er dont. and the drummers being an arse too. grrrrr

BIG ego twats

Damn, in defense of drummers everywhere, our drummer is a french horn player and keeps one of the most solid beats I've ever heard. However, our guitarist has an ego a ****ing mile wide. Every form of criticism directed at him is met with him pointing out every ****ing thing you have ever done wrong.
On top of that, hes a short nerdy looking dude that things hes a pimp and has the fastest car around in a 10 year old bronco. he insists on singing, even though he has one of the worst voices I've ever heard, and has refused to play with 2 very awesome singers I've found. He gets frustrated because I cant pick up what hes playing by ear the first time or two, and then when I throw something down he cant play over it for ****. The problem- Hes the only guitarist around with the skill or equipment to keep up with me and the drummer

Our guitarist, he wants to get gigs and play and just do all this stuff, but noone in our band can drive yet. There me who is like in this mix band (image Nirvana meets Cradle of Filth while beating Soulfly). We have me, bass/vocal (i can sing ok, scream well, but i can't write anything), the gutiarist/backup (he's really good at gutiar, can't write lyrics either, screams death metal like 'cool' but he complains when other write, get to that in a min), we have 2 singers, a nice lil black girl that can sing like a classical singer and writes about suicide and such, and this goth girl who can sing ok, and writes about people alot (guitarist dosen't like writing about people). We don't have a drummer per say, but we have drummers that will be in the band if we get a kit because there is something wrong with their kit/can't move their kit. I say to the gutiarist "dude, just wait a year until you have your licence, then we can start getting gigs and ****" he's all like "i can't i want........." goes on for a bit. Its nuts, but i can say that i do enjoy the practices. :-D

It´s ironic, but that could be me........

I´m one of those guys with a very "acid" sense of humor, and if it wasn´t that my brother is the guitar player, the singer is my brother´s best friend, and I´ve been playing with the drummer since my first band 9 years ago , i could be 6 feet under and those guys on prison....

Well I´m not that bad when you know me very well, at least my girlfriend loves me

Yeahhh!!!! My drummer has also that, what I call: the "Neil Pert symdrome", or: "look at me I´m the best drummer on earth, I can play all this patterns and I need to show them to everybody"

Our singer... Without a doubt, he is the weakest link. "Goodbye!" :D

The only negative things I've ever heard about our band have been about the vocalist. He's got a bad attitude, he says stupid stuff about "posuers" and so on in front of potential fans, he tells people that we wont do free gigs because we are "above that," he has no sense of humor... etc. The rest of my band fit each other well, personality wise, but he's always got some bug up his a$$ about something. On top of which, everyone I've talked to is of the opinion that his voice is wrong for our music.

Which is why I've been practicing singing and playing bass simultaneously on my own time, and come November or thereabouts, our four-piece will become a three-piece.

Mwahahaha!

OK, here goes..

Our second guitarist is Chris Tsangarides. If you haven't heard of him, here's the results from a search on Yahoo...

Link Removed

Anyway, he's an awesome guitarist, has a great ear, is content to sit back and add vibe rather than widdle... and of course there's the added advantage of owning one of the best recording suites in London, being a successful rock Producer for two decades and having some valuable contacts.

So what's the problem, I hear you say?

Well, the rest of the band are in our mid twenties and are stil pretty much in shape. But Chris is a bit older (45) and is a bit over weight - as probably the majority of people are at 45.
Personally I have absolutely no problem with someones age or weight, but and A&R person might do?

The dilema is that however good we are, we are made less marketable by having an older guy in the band. Thing is, we could never kick him out, cause he's so good and such a great guy... but just imagine the tension if an offer, minus Chris, was sent our way?

I actually feel like a A-hole saying this, but I know that when it comes down to it, if there's one tiny thing out of place it's goodbye recording deal... and this is our aim, eventually.

Please give me your opinions on this?

man.....that sounds so familiar

here is the story of a dysfunctional band w/ a bassist that couldnt care less

I was thinking bout pickin up the bass a few months ago because nobody on the face of the planet (hawaii that is) plays it.
The whole thing got started when i realized that we had all the components for a band. for this to make sense you must realize that i could not care less bout what my band does accept for the type of music we play. Our Ex guitarist and a few of his friends put me in the "dont give a flying rats ass" section.
But any way......me the drummer and our ex guitarist have been friends for a while. i knew our guitarist wouldnt last because he is different from the rest of us. he dresses goth and doesnt even play that good cause he jus picked up guitar as a hobbie. but he was still pretty cool
Our drummer is bout 4 feet off the ground
but has the ego to beat most of them out.
He claims he is the best friggin drummer on the face of the planet. i cant say if he is any good or not cause i know very little bout drumming so.
Not to mention he plays so loud it drown out the construction of a new neighborhood going on accross the street from our practice site. and when i told him this he bout flipped out and went nuts on his cymbals (he had jus gotten new Ziljians so that didnt help at all because that was only a boost up from 2 cheap korean made and bout 10 points on the ego scale)
He never takes anything seriously and when me and my other guitarst are trying to talk he is beating the holy hell out of his brand new ziljians
making it impossible to make him shut up to the point that me and the other dude have to leave the room to figure out a bass line for something new

now on to my guitarist. NOBODY IN THIS BAND LIKES THIS GUY
like i said i was put in the dont give a flying rats ass but this guy even buggs me. he is bout 6 inches taller than our drummer. but he talks like he is 7 feet tall. im the tallest person any of them knows (6ft) personally but this guy is jus lookin to get his ass whooped. im stayin w/ him because he is a good guitarist and has a wall sized amp (which i burned out but thats another story)
not to mention this guy made him self part of the band w/ out asking
so i guess im jus another bassist in a long line w/ depressing stories to tell

o ya....i only been playin for bout 2 months...i dont consider my self sucky but i know i got a LONG way to go

when the last decade started, i was invited to play bass in what became a six-piece with two singers, two guitars, keyboardist, and drummer. i'd known most of them except the keyboardist and had already been in one great band with the drummer.

the keyboardist was unfortunately very rudimentary in his skills... many was the time i ended up having to show him how to do certain licks. but that's not the half of it.

at one point before we got the lead guitarist we had, the keyboardist brought in a prospective candidate for the spot. the guy showed up with a cheap jackson-charvel copy guitar of unknown origin with calvin & hobbes painted on the body... and that was it. no amp, no case for the guitar, not even a strap. we tried a couple of songs but he wasn't exactly on the same planet with the rest of us. he started playing the riff to "ain't talkin' 'bout love" and when the rest of the band kicked in, he stopped playing. needless to say, we didn't take him.

once our lineup was solidified, we played what ended up being our only live performance, opening for another band that I had once been a part of. our rhythm guitarist kept vowing that he was going to get blunted before the show, and we all urged him not to. he apparently didn't heed our advice, and the leader of the other band quickly ran to the soundboard when we started playing in order to turn him down. someone taped the show with a microcassette recorder but it's hard to tell how badly he was off, if that.

we had three more months of rehearsals and a couple of lineup changes before i quit.

next time i get involved with a band, i'm gonna start and be in charge of the whole thing. to hell with this sidemouse crap.

I had this drummer that had everything given to him by his parent 2000 Blazer (free), 10 piece Yamaha stage custom (free), cymbals galore (free)..... and so on. He spent more time crying about getting paid than actually playing. Here is a rich @$$ free loading Def Leppard, INXS wannabe.. That can't keep time for (money)! :D He'd reset the setlist to his liking, play to fast and too slow, He was horrible, yet there was no one else.
Your band is only as strong as your weakest member... I quickly left!

The SINGER.

Strong voice, but...
sleeps until just before the gig.
doesn't help with set up.
gets fussy about which songs to play
(on stage refuses to sing after we already did the intro)
drops the mic
forgets words
doesn't help with the break down after the gig.

But it's a family issue.

I'm in my first band since high school jazz band, and the current members are perfect! My drummer is awesome yet modest, our singer helps the songs piece together into... songs, and I click very well with the both of them. But we can't find a guitarist who either a) isn't a buttrocker or b) isn't a frat boy! It's soooo frustrating, because we have a gig in like three weeks, so I might have to play guitar and have the singer play bass, which isn't by any means what we wanna be doing (i'm a bassist who knows guitar...)

um... why doesn't the singer try playing guitar? surely there has to be a guitarist out there that will play what you're looking to play.

:) the only thing i dislike about my band (other than how i suck) is that all the other members so different. dont get me wrong.. i like people being different.. but.. its hard to get along with these ppl. I like punk music.. they like GNR and the Moffatts.. see.. i told u they were different. And they wont play punk music.. So.. I say We are all the worst members... cuz.. were... BLAH.. and dont get along... but playing instruments wise.. im the worst.:)

The drummer and lead guitarist get on my nerves.. they were never really good friends of mine but i went out with the drummer a while back... (figure that one out):) They jus kinda.. ended up in our band.. there are not many ppl who play instruments.. but of couse i know a drummer who likes punk music.. but the rest of my band dosnt like punk.. so we didnt get him. Grrr.. I dislike that i had no say in bringing the drummer and lead guitarist in the band.. So i told my band that once i find musicans that are into punk and stuff.. that i am quitting the band im in and making a punk band. So... im just holdin out in this band til i get a better one. :p
