worst band member

I think I win for the suckiest band.
I'm like a mix of all of you. We dont want to play the same songs and we ae stuck with blink/offspring stuff which the guitarist likes because he wont play any new songs. he has the biggest ego in the world, a lame ass David Beckam mohican. he is the worst singer in the world i swear it but he thinks he's the best. he refuses to sing at practices incase it "wrecks his voice" which we would all prefer it then we could get a better singer. he doesnt want another guitarist rythm or lead, he cant do lead but he wont get sum1 hu can even though we found sum1. he wont get another singer in. he only wants to play his own songs which suck and not mine or the drummers *sniggers* only his which are sh!t. plus he has got a new gold explorer copy and refuses to put it in the case so he can walk round and show it off. he also plays in between songs when ppl try to talk and he sulks.
now to the drummer.
he steals cars, even his parents, he steals money, he steals MY cds. he plays louder than the band with my 160W amp and the guitarist 100W tube laney. he breaks sticks and skins frequently. he missed a gig because he ran away to another town for the day and he is a pathological liar.
man i need a new band.

The lead guitarist/singer in my band is definatley the worst member. Hes a great player but he is so extremely cocky. He talks about how the music is all his inspiration. He even tries to write music for all the instruments including drums (he is a terrible drum player believe me). He tries to take control of everything everytime we practice.

Fortunately for us, the remaining three members stick together. We just dont listen to what he says. He will go and write a drum lick or a bass riff to the way he wants it and then the drummer or I will go and change it to the way we want it without him knowing. He hasnt caught on yet. So hopefully it stays that way.

so many drummer complaints ............ hmm...... :p. i have a problem with the lead guitarist in my band. see he doesnt like to sit down and write together, he wants to write a song, then play it, and have me just play along. then he complains about me not being able to write a bassline. i argue, " that was the first time ive even heard the song, you expect me to write a bass line that fast!?!" . greez, that and he has this problem. he likes to play loud, reeeally loud. now i like to play loud myself, but there is a point were it becomes rediculous. that and its like he refuses to turn down his amp, he just tells you to turn up yours.
my band practices at the singer / rythm guitarist's house, and they have a barn that we practice in ( his moms photo studio. ) the barn is about 20ft away from the house. we were playing so loud, my friends dad came out and told us to turn down! my ears rang so loud i didnt sleep one hour that night.
thats my story

My old singer (first band), was a rip off of every popular frontman, whoever was popular at the moment, and didn't write his own lyrics. Sort of. He copied down korn lyrics in his own words (have witnesses to the act), and always wrote about a bad childhood he never had, and girls he'd never met. Loser. Still is.

I have to say I'm the worse member of my band ;)

I never seem to be able to write a decent lyric...LoL.

I can sing, but I can't play bass for nads... Maybe tahts cause we lost our bassplayer so I was forced into this occupation...I'm enjoying playing bass alot, and if I get better, just saying SCREW YOU to lead singing...

But other then that, I pretty much piss my band off cuase I steal attention ;)

But come on... I want ALL the girls.... :(

Hmmm...where do I start? Our lead singer has been singing the same songs for nine months, yet he continues to use cheat sheets during his performance. That's right -- he actually reads the lyrics off of a sheet while he is singing them, in plain view of God and everyone.

Our drummer has the nasty habit of speeding up, slowing down, speeding up again and then dropping his drumsticks. At one of our last shows, he caught the underside of his cymbal and his stick landed right in front of me -- I was a good ten feet away for the cry-eye! Recently, he's started confusing some of the songs with each other, so right in the middle of 'Bad Religion,' he plays a fill from 'Are You There.' Also, his timing is screwy and he usually crashes on the wrong notes. His wife has convinced him that he should do a drum solo during every show though -- so he's got that going for him. ;)

Our guitarist has been playing some of the songs we do for over 6 years now and he still effs 'em up. We are to the point at practice, that when he says he doesn't need to go through a particular song, we start right in on it. Most times, he'll say he doesn't need to practice it and then we have to stand around for a few minutes while he figures out what notes to play. A few weeks ago, he asked me if I could e-mail him a song list and note what key and what tunings the songs were in, so he could practice the solos. He's also the soundguy, which sucks because he's tin-eared as hell and always has to be the loudest guy onstage.

An easier question to have asked would have been: "Who is the best guy in your band?" I could've just answered, "Me."

We had a terriable band member so we kicked him out. 6 months later you still hear him and other people saying he is still shaken up about being booted. Hey if you dont own your own stuff, never wrote anything and can't play your instrument chances are you are not gonna last dont be so surprised!!!!

But I have also been the sucky member once. I just didn't have the same beliefs as the rest of the band and they moved on and got kinda big in the area. I am happy for them though. Last I heard they broke up though.

well I'm a girl but just about everything else you said holds true for me... my lyrics are ok, though, but my bass playing isn't soo good; but I like it. and my singing is ok for the genre of music I like...(hard rock - maybe like the guano apes frontwoman if anyone knows them)

Hmm...in comparism of all these storys, I feel pretty lucky with my band.

We are all old friends (except for the singer, he´s new). Although our drummer has the slowing down/speeding up syndrome. But he´s gotten alot better since he took some drum classes.
Our singer though has an annoying tendency of showing up about 30min. late at every practise. We´re thinking about scheduling them half an our earlier (to fool him) so we can all be there on time. But these gripes are minor compared to some of the stories in this thread :)

I would definitely have to say my drummer. Our Drummer is an egoticistacal little prick. He wants the rest of the band to alter their schedules for him. For instance we have a gig coming up friday night at a school dance, and he didnt want to practice thursday, because "He had a tennis match TO WATCH" TO WATCH not to play, to WATCH it. ON TV. That made me so made. Then he has the nerve to tell me he wont play any gigs where he isnt getting paid, Unless there is a chance to get paid i.e. Battle of the Bands. But what is it about Drummers?

:D well at firts i sucked but my friend, Aaron, thought he was mister big stuff and as my playing skills matured he just wanted to play the same stuff, like black magic woman when I wanted to play som difficult stuff(plus I hated that music anyways) but he thought when he played his solo right he was great but i kicked him out and got a new one. even though he says hes better.

I love my band after reading all these stories. We've only been together about 1/2 a year, but we've gotten so much better in just that much time. The guitarist and I go way back, we've been best friends since I first moved into my new house, about 10 years ago. First I picked up guitar and then he followed suit because he thought it was cool. When he started taking lessons, and I didn't, he got better than me, so I picked up bass. we played for about 2 months and decided it was time to get a drummer. With flyers all over town and in the local High School, we got a very well respected (remember 10th graders here) drummer in the area. We started playing off only Blink 182 but have now moved on and wrote our first song last week. We've all got some weak parts, but no one sucks. Me, I've only been playing for like 10 months, without lessons, so with online tabs and playing with recordings I have gotten ok, but I can sing with anyone in the county. My guitarist has been playing a year, but is already better than any local 9th graders. He claims he can sing, and he's ok, but can't harmonize and hits a whole bunch of sour notes (also hasn't decided on a style he likes). The worst thing with him is how he plays while I'm talking to the drummer, or to him. Out drummer, however, is amazing. He's been playing for like 7 years and has amazing rhythm. The only problems with him are when we're practicing and we're playing a song we havn't played in a long time (in our time, this is about a month...) he sometimes messes up the parts. Other than all these little pet peeves I have, I love my band!

Well mine is short, we can't afford large amps, yet our drummer insists on hitting the damn drums as hard as he possibly can. It seems he does that just so that we can't even hear ourselves, he doesn't play for the band at all, just to hear himself really loud. He has even broken drumsticks before.

Drum sticks break on a regular basis. It's like strings. After a while you need new ones. Those Hi-hats completely destroy drum sticks.

Casanova wins for funniest line in this thread.....:D

I like our drummer. In fact, he's the best musician in our band. I'm probably near the low end talent wise, so I can't whine too much.

Except for one thing: our guitarist, who isn't bad, seems to think that we are a southern rock band stuck in 1984. Want a good laugh? Check out this pic. This is what happens when you innocently say, "yeah, go ahead - post my pic on the website." Next thing you know your guitarist is putting up a Confederate flag background behind you without you knowing it. Some of my fave bassists, like Larry Graham, probably wouldn't think it's funny. Geez I gotta find me a decent blues band....

well, I am rather lucky to have close to 10 bands I'm in at the moment, even though none really are getting anywhere.... but one of my bands, a hardcore one I'm in...is HORRID!! first off, our guitar player has been playing for over a year and a half(same as myself) and is taking lessons, and he can't even keep a steady rhythm...I just picked up his guitar the other day at practice and could already play better than him.... he also has one of those Crate digital amps, which he relies on WAY too much... next is the singer.... he refuses to use a microphone, he says he would rather yell over my 100 watt amp and the guitar player's 65 watt amp, and he's one of those "teen angst" kids because his girlfriend broke up with him a month ago and now all his songs are about wandering alone and drowning....and last the drummer, his kit is about the same as the guy from Sugar Ray, and we're a hardcore band...he smashes the snare because he thinks he's the only one with rhythm in the band.... but I'm not that great either, but I look like freakin Jaco compared to this band....
