Then there was the N.Y. band, (just)”Bongwater”, more of a project than anything else, cranked out a bunch of albums in the 80’s and 90’s, were kind of a big deal in the alternative(when it was really ‘alternative’)scene.

Guy I played hockey with was in a band of that name. They used it for many years. For some reason.
Portuguese boy band in the 90s, they were horrible, and the name was worse:

They were obviously a ripoff of the briefly successful UK boy band, of the same era :
