I don't think I'd get too upset over one bad bass. Yes, it sucks when you're the one that got it, but there are hundreds, or more, people on TB that are perfectly happy with their Squier basses. Not need to disparage an entire brand because you got a bad one.

Huh, I always assumed it was Fender's typo. What exactly is a Squier? Is it named after the old AC wave naming convention? I've always wondered.

I'm confused. Why are you contacting Fender for a replacment. Who did you buy it from. They are the ones to returm it to and they can deal with Fender.

Classic Vibe gen 2. All is said. Even the previous Vintage Modified models were better made. Yep the specs weren't "period accurate", and the logo not as "nice". But that's it. Squier good = JV 82-84, CV 2008-2016... the rest is... luck!

Since the screw holes for the bridge are drilled by CNC, it is almost impossible to be out of place.

Normally I would agree with this statement, but personal experience prevents me from doing so.

I had a MIA P bass that had a factory installed bridge that was crooked and the string through body holes were out of alignment as well. Some careful measurements revealed the bridge was on center, just rotated out of alignment by a solid 1/4", so the E string side was too far and the G string side was too close. The through body string holes on the back were crooked too, to match the crooked bridge. Sent the bass back and just asked for a refund.

Has this generally been the case with the CV stuff of late? i.e. They had a golden era and then the quality dipped on (at least) some of them?

I have a 2013 60s P (fiesta red, beefy brass-looking bridge, etc) and it is an excellent bass - especially given the $225 I paid for it. Just dropped in an EMG GZR pickup, since that was the one weakness I felt it had. It's a great bass though...

Bummer man, not all are the same and like that though - it happens. I can see it souring your view, but I have owned and played some very solid Squier basses.

5 Squier basses hanging on my wall right now. From cheapie Affinity P and J all the way to CV series 50's P and 60's J basses. All play great. I've modded most of them to better meet my needs but they were all gig ready when I got them. Just needed a good set-up. Just so everyone knows, I've been a bassist since 1969. I own a 1960 Precision, a 2008 Precision, a 2005 USA Reverend Rumbefish, Schecter Diamond J series, and some more parts P builds. So I'm perfectly capable of telling if a bass is decent enough to gig with. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Squier basses. Sure a bad one might slip through just like with any model. I once bought a new USA 62 RI P bass that was junk and a Carvin that was garbage. That said, I would (and have) gig with any of my Squier basses anytime.

IIRC ITS THE NAME OF THE GUY WHO STARTED SQUIER.

I have a funny feeling that you weren't the first owner of this "new" bass. Somebody probably bought it, stripped the truss rod, and sent it back saying they didn't like the colour or something. Not that it helps you any.

Today I received a Squire classic vibe 70s P bass When the bass arrived the neck was like a banana so I immediately went to adjust the truss rod to the proper relief only to find the nut to be completely stripped. The bridge was slightly off center the pickups were buzzing really disappointing even though i own some expensive basses $400 is $400 ya know. I used to be in high praise of Squire but today I'm bummed. Contacted fender for a replacement or my money back. Let's see if they respond!

Any company can put out an occasional lemon, but it sucks when it's your turn in the barrel. I'm sure if you bought it new (and it sounds like you did), this will be no problem for you. And if the next one's a lemon, return it, too.

That's disappointing. I really like the Squier,CV series.
You should check out the new Jackson Spectra basses. Fantastic basses.they really upp'd their game with these.

I thought the newer ISS serial numbered ones were suppose to be pretty good. Dang, I'm sorry to hear this. I 'm considering one of these myself. Not for the neck, but for that walnut colored Nato body. If QC from Fender is that bad, might as well order one from Amazon for $350 and use their easy return process if you get a bad one.

Oof. Last month I ordered a SBMM Ray34PB (the poplar burl one) and it was such a lemon. I ABSOLUTELY despise off-center bridges or nuts, and this bass had both. Also the frets were sprouting like there was no tomorrow. I had superficial cuts all over that was bothering me even in day-to-day activities. And that bass costs $850!
I'm sorry you're having a horrible bass day.

What a shame. All of the Classic Vibe basses I've played have functioned perfectly. I would give it another shot and get another one sent to you.
