The other thing that drives me nuts on demos are guys who pluck either immediately in front of the bridge or somewhere up around the 12th fret.

Humm.............. I dig the look of that bass myself.I'll give it points on body shape and color, but that is one mugly piece of tort. Those knobs are a poor choice and the headstock is awkward.
The builder says he spent time with Sadowsky, but it looks like he didn't learn anything about design there. Probably swept the floors.

He's not slapping. He's thumb picking.
It sounds bad because you're hearing it distort the handheld mic the reporter is using.

He was playing in his style to show what the bass sounds like. No big deal.
Those clips are the exact reason I will not post any videos of myself playing. I don't want to be the subject of TalkBass ridicule. 
Oh, come on. I'm really disappointed in my fellow TBers. For "Worst Bass Demo" you could only come up with a couple of examples? It's like you're not even trying.

To each their own. You might not like the bass or the way the guy played it-- a handheld mic for a video cam is not the ideal way to record bass which is why it distorted-- but are you always this obnoxious? He must have swept the floors at Sadowsky? Perhaps you should ask Roger about Chris. He'll have good things to say. And what about his decade + at the Gibson custom shop in Nashville? He emptied the trash there too, I suppose? And the Rolling Stones know nothing about good guitars, I guess? Ron Wood's touring with a Swope guitar right now. The basses are new, but if they're anything like the guitars, they'll kill. I'd like to try one.
The video is a quick one-off by PREMIERE GUITAR magazine (not Swope Guitars). Save your marketing and technical advice for them. Premiere Guitar Magazine has been good to Swope, so he's not about to offend them by telling them to yank their NAMM clip. As you may know, all kinds of magazines and sites go around the NAMM floor talking with different vendors. It's what they do, and no vendor says "I need final artistic say over your production."

This video is as old as the hills and is unfairly pilloried every time it comes around. Yes, the playing is pretty dire but I always thought it was just an off-the-cuff take of a laidback porch jam session. I've had my fretless out this afternoon and I'm no Alain Caron either...
As far as reviews go - I personally think there is none better than LA based Jayme Lewis. The cat is super creative on how to display products in real world scenarios. Glad he exists.
I wonder if the guy who started yesterday's fretless troll thread had that in mind? If so, I may have been a bit harsh on him...
