Buy the new Newport reissue. It’s the same idea, but more ergonomic. Trust me, no one in the audience cares that it’s not a vintage bass.

That's a win!Hey friends. Thanks for everyone’s thoughts. I returned to Sam Ash today with a better strap. The neck dive is now acceptable. She is MINE. Will gig with the Newport this weekend in NH and MA.

Often making things work that aren’t working or you think won’t is in the fine details and attitude, not the broad strokes of past experience.
Congrats! What strings are you playing? Im using GHS Pressurewounds but i play with a pick a lot and thumb....semi parametric EQ is very cool with these neck mudbuckers basses a real game changer for different tones.
Btw folks, these 65 Newports have 2 upper strap buttons, one on the heel and other on the upper horn.
Is your body contoured on the back? Again congrats, not many of these out there.
Looks great! I hope the gig went well! From our show last night in Rochester, NH.
I figured yours was contoured back most are...btw, i pulled the whole muting setup off my bros 65 Newport to get the action lower and save some weight...if you get a chance could you weigh your Newport?Yep, countoured. I don’t know what brand the flats it came with are, but they’re working great!
I too tried to fall in love with a Hofner bass. It just felt like a toy and I could never get comfortable. I loved the woody thump though. When I was younger I was in a couple of bands that did a lot of good Beatles tunes, like the Abbey Road medley. But every violin bass I tried had string spacing too close at the bridge, and I never could play it comfortably.
Just a personal thought as to your situation. While I admire your attitude, I bet not one in a thousand persons who sees your show would know the Epiphone, and playing a P probably looks more correct to most of them.
Just a thought.
