That nut is a red flag. It looks like they hacked up some of the wood. Yep, it bothers me. You can get one without issues for less. I've owned a Squier from that era, nothing special. The newer ones are fine.

That nut appears to have a wooden 'shim' underneath it, and the whole mess is stuck together with what looks like 5-minute epoxy. I'm sure there would be a risk of damaging the fingerboard and/or neck chiseling that junk off to install a proper nut.

I'm volunteering, for all those saying "no it wouldn't bother me" to do free "custom work" on all of their basses. I bet I can replicate that crappy nut job with ease, and it won't bother them in the least apparently

The neck is now worthless since you cant just swap in a good nut, someone destroyed that possibility. So maybe $50 bucks for a sticker ed up body and 20+ year old electronics?

As far as pricing high knowing people will offer lower..... I tried to sell a mint VM Squier Jazz for $200 obo here locally on CL and all I got were trade offers from people clearly looking to unload junk and stock their pawn shop walls. Not even lowball offers.

It might be a nice bass otherwise, but can't believe this person expects to get $400.

I'm starting to get really annoyed with this. I see the point of those who stand up for sellers like that with comments like "you can sell it for whatever you want.". But often times if something is priced too high it won't sell and it just clogs up websites and waste my time. I'm not into lowballers but I honestly don't think I'd ask for more than $200 for a used Squier when I've bought and sold several mim fenders for $300. And these people just relist stuff over and over and over again. If you don't want to sell it for what it's worth to OTHER PEOPLE than you shouldn't sell it. I'm paying for your bass and what it's worth to me not the sentimental value you have for it. Not trying to sound like a lowballer but some people need to get real.

You can get the new CV 70s P for that price. But, if someone has $400 burning a hole in their pocket, shops on the internet but doesn't have the wherewithal to do research on the internet, then more power to the seller.

The seller won't acknowledge that the nut has destroyed the value of the bass. It will cost more to fix than buying another Squier neck off TB or ebay. I'd offer $100 and he can keep the amp. The chance of him accepting is slim to none.

Okay, we're bashing the nut, I get it. It looks like a hack job.

Moving on to the actual repair of it. There's a groove on those necks that the OEM nut sits in. The groove is intact. That guitar nut is glued in at an angle, and the wood shim there looks like it's just sitting atop the leading edge of the groove. Easy fix. Sandpaper, files, and 2 hours of work and it's back in business. 400 bucks for the whole thing- I wouldn't pay it. If it were a more desirable instrument for a better price- yeah, I'd pay it and fix it.

So again, no, it doesn't bother me. I can tell there's some people who've never worked with a typical Fender/Squier style nut though.

The concept of this bothering anyone escapes me. It would bother me if someone replaced my bass's nut with a guitar nut and it would bother me if someone put stickers all over my case. But no one has done those things to my bass and no one is trying to sell my bass for a crazy price. Why be bothered by something that doesn't affect anyone?

I'm not convinced the nut slot is intact. But if it is then yeah it's repairable.
