Me, too. If it was good enough for McCartney, it's good enough for me.
You could always buy a silver Sharpie and add your own dots.
Every time and twice on Sundays.
Dread to think what a mess my neck and eyesight would be in after 40+ years straining to see side dots.
if the bass were otherwise something i really liked, i'd buy it - and then i'd nicely ask ariex to add side dots for me.

I had a cool vintage MIJ hollowbody guitar that didn’t have side dots. I loved the look of the thing, it sounded pretty darn good, and was comfortable enough to play…but the lack of side dots really sucked. I tried adding little pieces of electrical tape on the binding to act as side dots, but they fell off pretty quickly. Eventually I sold it after narrowly avoiding a train wreck on a gig because of the lack of side dots causing me to really mess up a song that had some fun shifts in it. It wasn’t my main guitar anyway, so out the door it went.

In a way, I did. The side dots on my Fender American Original 60s Jazz Bass are near invisible, at least to me.

For the right bass I'd accept the deficiency and pay to have them added. I don't use the fingerboard dots because none of my basses have them, but for a quick shift I'm not that good to gig without them.
Adjacent topic: Has anyone ever had standard side dots replaced with the oversized lumilay 3mm ones? Difficulty/cost? I know the neck may need a refinish and don't mind if it's just the back (no maple boards).

All of my basses have side dots.
That said on a dim lit stage, or a stage with (hopefully
) changing stage light,I usually don't see them at all.
They are also totally useless for headbangers and "stage runners"
But I use them to intonate (setup) my fretless, that makes them kinda important?

So I guess it's a "yes" for fretted (no need for side dots at all) and "no" for fretless (need them for a setup)

Depends on the bass. I need side dots if it’s fretless, but not if it’s fretted. That being said, all my basses are fretted and I just look at the fretboard markers.

I absolutely would. But probably, that's because I, natural born idiot, wouldn't notice it at first and then, two weeks later, I'd be sitting there thinking "Something is weird, but I can't quite put my finger on it..."
