Forgive the brief digression, but boy do I love the way Pino plays! He always sounds good, whether he's playing with Paul Young, The Who, John Mayer, or whomever else.

Nope. Not even with my drummer’s girlfriend’s daddy’s MasterCard.
No. You can by a plane ticket, fly to NYC, buy a decent bass, have a really good dinner, fly back home, pay the import duty, and still have change in your pocket.
so what's the deal with this bass? not like Pino made it himself
looks like a regular Fender P Bass with a new after market bridge fitted.
and comes with a fancy bit of worthless paper adding an extra $1000 to a used bass.
There are no photos showing if the headstock, or if it is damaged, and the photos have been craftily cropped to not show too much.
Looks like electric sander went over the neck plate too.
Get a nice regular MIA Fender P bass.

You’re right. I was tempted by the “custom shop” thing but there are too many wrong things: the bridge, the serial number engraved only in the neckplate, lack of Fender decal, I get that someone may want to strip the body paint but why erase the Fender decal.
Why? Because it’s a stolen item and they wanted to make it anonymous? Because it’s not a Pino bass at all? Because the owner just wanted to strip everything, AND change the bridge, AND post photos lacking relevant details, AND ask for a very high price?
No, because people are weird and sometimes make strange actions, like saying: “you know what? That 3k custom shop bass will look totally cooler WITHOUT paint!”.

If it would be a real custom shop Fender and I'd like the instrument, I might buy it and have it refinished. 1.500,- is less than a US standard new. But I wouldn't buy this particular bass. There is something fishy here going on. Like the bridge etc. And why would someone strip the finish from that particular model instead of selling it?
To me it looks like a Fender Vintage case with a faked or duplicated certificate and neck plate and whatever Precision this might be?
BTW Two piece bodies are more than o.k. and make more sense than one piece bodies and this is what the custom shop guarantees.
One piece bodies are very rare and - besides the cosmetics - don't make sense (more prone to warp).
