Fine, I guess it's my turn.
"Regular Fenders" are made in either Mexico (MIM) or USA (MIA). The MIA Fenders can get moderately expensive; whether they warrant the price over a MIM or Squier is dependent on several factors, not the least of which is personal preference.
A "Squier" is Fender's budget line of instruments, produced in either Indonesia or, in the case of the Affinity line, China. They are perfectly serviceable instruments, though generally lack the same level of fit and finish as their MIM and MIA brethren, to varying degrees. Many agree that the higher end Squiers do not fall far, if at all, from MIM Fenders. YMMV.
Also, I own both a regular Fender (MIM) and a Squier Affinity. I like and have gigged them both to no ill effect.
That can be said about many things in this world.
If it was a good bass that met my needs within my budget, yes.

If it's all you can afford a squier Jazz isn't bad at all (I personally think the squier p basses suck though) but I'd go for a MIM fender jazz used or new if you can afford it.
I had a Squier Precision Vinatage Modified in my hands the other day and the quality was very good (no sharp fret ends, no adjustments needed out of the box) for something that cost 325-.
Sent it back because I didn't like the neck dive (could have been fixed with a wider strap) and that it wasn't the color I ordered.

I had one of the classic vibe squier p basses and it sounded very boxy and the tone knob didn't do anything, but I'm not really a p bass guy unless it's paired with a jazz pup
Check out Sire V7. There is the Sire bass club here on TB.
The V7 starts at $399 for an amazing alder w rosewood fretboard 4 string. $499 for the fiver.
Please check them before you buy a fender. I have owned a fender mim and a mia and I feel the Sire is equal to the mia and saving $1500.
Check the post on the sire club and read them.
If your 100% a fender guy then look at mim basses imho.

The most important thing to remember is that you don't have to buy a Fender...you can just buy this.
I have a Fender Jazz bass, too, and every song I play on the Fender I can play on the Squier. Hard to believe, right?
The Squier Classic Vibe Jazz in Inca Silver is one of the best basses in its price range...$379. It plays and sounds even better than it looks.
There's some talk about Fender discontinuing the Squier CV Jazz basses because they're hurting the sales of the Fender Standard Jazz basses (which cost $200 more) and other than the Inca Silver Jazz and the James Johnston Jazz they're no longer on the Fender/Squier website.
I've always thought they were underpriced and could easily sell for $479.
By the way, it's passive, no batteries to worry about, and passive is the way to go if you're a purist.
