Would you guys like bound and blocked necks on am. std??

I should amend my previous statement...
On a P-Bass? No.
On a Jazz... I like the pearl inlay with binding on a rosewood board.
Don't care for it on maple... and I think black blocks look absolutely terrible. First time I saw that, I thought it looked like some kid drew 'em on with a sharpie!!! They lack the elegance of the pearl inlay... it just looks cheap to me.
I used to be a block-inlay fan when I was younger... but, no more. I don't even care as much for the triangles and binding on a RIC the way I used to (as evidenced by my switch from a 4003 to a 4001v63), and most Ric owners would think that's nuts!!!
Of course, the bottom line here is "to each, his own."
I'm a sucker for a flashy neck and fingerboard, love me some bound and blocked neck on almost any bass, particularly Jazz Bass.
Tell that to Geddy Lee...hur hur hur. I do agree pearl inlays and binding do look a tad bit better than the black ones though.
that would drive the already cost of a fender up to a few hundred dollars more.

I actually like the binding and blocks BUT only on either natural, black or dark red body colors....Sunburst look great just plain maple, IMO...that is my 1-1/2 cents worth...(As was said, "I'll buy that for a dollar")
Most definitely. The look of a '74 (?) Jazz (black, white PG, maple BnB Board) was the very reason I got interested in Fenders back in the day, and what got me thinking about getting A Squier VMJ, a purchase I've never regretted.
The practical issue with binding is that it makes refret jobs a big headache.
The rest is aesthetics and how much you get caught up in appearance. I've gigged basses of both varieties that were great instruments. My personal pref is to avoid the bling on a Fender. But, no one generally notices on the bass; so, no big deal either way.

I think fancy binding and inlays are the bridge to having a fancy boutique bass thats way out of reach the common man like myself.

Absolutely. And, that is POR for Fender. The luthiers I've worked with hate those things.
