I like gold anodized, but think it looks better with a maple board. On Black/rosewood, I much prefer tort. And actually, if it were Black/maple, I'd go with the 3-ply (B/W/B) black guard. The gold anodized would be my 2nd choice on a Black/maple.

Rosewood board? I'd go tort or mint. Both those examples look GREAT!

Gold ano is just so year-specific... it only works for me on those specific year basses, or re-issues of those year basses (57? 58?)

And, black or B/W/B guards also bring to mind certain "vintages" of Fenders. Not ones I'd prefer to re-live.

Thats exactly how I feel about gold ano, it IS year specific. It's the only thing keeping me from totally going for it. And if I put one on my 2007 American Standard it will make it look like a vintage reissue or something. But I do like the look.

I don't know if I can do Tort, I used to love the look of Tort with a black bass, but I mean... everyone does it now. I'm not even sure if I like the look anymore. It's become too common, which is funny because I used to feel that way about black bodies with a while pickguard. It was SO common and bland, like the traditional black stratocaster you see in magazines. But lately it's grown on me again.

I've decided to add another option, I think I will completely rule out Tortoise Shell and add a vintage Creme/black/creme.

Absolutely not. Crystal clear.

Rosewood = tort

Maple = anodized gold

Anything else is just trying too hard.

I used to have a red sparkle MIM Fender P-Bass Special with gold anodized pickguard. It was a great bass. Jazz neck, P+J pickups, I put a BadassII Bridge on it. Wish I never got rid of it.

If it was a maple fretboard, I'd say gold anodized or black.
Being that it's a rosewood fretboard, I'd do tort all day long.

Black does look good, but I have a Fender Telecaster that is Black on Black.

I chose the gold because you only gave us 4 choices. White's not too bad. If it had been available in the poll, I would have chosen black.

I think black on black looks pretty cool...especially if you have a rosewood or ebony fretboard.

I have 5 Fender basses. All black. 2 with tort, 1 with 3 ply white, 1 with 3 ply black and 1 with gold anodized.
