Hey all,

So I'm thinking of replacing the pickguard on my Fender American Standard P-Bass, Black body, rosewood fingerboard with a white/black/white pickguard. A classic look, I dig it. I also like the look of mint/black/mint, tortoise shell and gold anodized aluminum.

I'm curious to see which option gets most votes amongst you guys, because as of right now I'm leaning towards gold anodized.

just a thought though, black PG on black body can look pretty awesome too. take a gander at a Roger Waters P-Bass

Tort's. Especially the vintage torts on 3TS or Olympic white. Don't really like the new ones and I personally don't like tort on black.

I think in your case I would go the gold anodized or mint/black/mint. They would look great on black.

I've seen mint on black on a P-Bass once and it looked amazing. If anyone has pics, please post'em.

I voted tort because .... well ... I *always* vote tort!


However, if you've got a maple neck I'd also seriously consider either gold anodized or even going off the board and doing a black/white/black or gold anodized.

Sure tort looks good but why follow the "rules". Shake it up a bit. Break the mold and do something different.

I have tort on a black Valenti. Its nice. Black is good too. However, and I'm done customizing for a bit, the Cornodo gold guard on the Lakland J5 would be KILLER on the black Valenti. KILLER imho. So much so I voted GOLD even though anodized wouldnt be my preferred pallete.

( its the same Lakland in the avatar which now wears a coat of black currant pearl )

Rosewood board? I'd go tort or mint. Both those examples look GREAT!

Gold ano is just so year-specific... it only works for me on those specific year basses, or re-issues of those year basses (57? 58?)

And, black or B/W/B guards also bring to mind certain "vintages" of Fenders. Not ones I'd prefer to re-live.
