Would you make this trade?

did you ask for trade offers in your CL ad or just "sell only" for your J bass? I get all kinds of offers on CL when I post a bass or bass amp or cab for sale/trade. So y'all don't get too offended when a dude offers a MIM P bass for that Jazz. Folks just offer up what they wanna trade to see if the seller bites, may not be meant as a scam. As always buyer-beware.

Heck, I've had some pretty low-ball trade offers here on TB when I posted some better quality gear for sale. And this from fellow bassists who are supposed to know the value of alot of this gear. Like many say here in their ads, "As for trades, what you offering? Doesn't hurt to ask. Most I can do is say no thanks" :D One mans' trash; another mans' gold, you know, that whole thing.

My preaching aside, the 90's MIM P is not a good "even trade" for your J bass. I'd sell it and buy a nice bass here on TB....or make a trade offer here with it, all they can do is say no thanks, LOL. ;) Good luck.

In all the years I dealt gear, I don't think I was ever offered an attractive trade.

I don't think I've ever gotten an attractive sell price when I asked for something on CL, either.

The most recent amazing offer I got was when I was asking for a couple of low-mass Fender bridges, figuring $5-$10 per. You can buy 'em new for $12 all day.

Some asshat wrote me that he had an old bridge off a '93 MIM:

"$40, no haggling."

:rollno:

CL is such a cesspool, I swear...

No my ad did not ask for trades. I wasn't interested in trades really. Just reducing my collection a bit to help pay for the Ric I already bought. The trade offers don't offend me but like I said I just didn't know enough about MIM P's to know the value of them. I've never personally been impressed with the MIM Strat's so I was a bit leery to begin with.

He did send some photos and they look alright but still it isn't really what I am looking for. If CL doesn't find a buyer it's not that big a deal but I really don't need as many basses as I have and the Jazz V and my MIA P are the two that I am least likely to spend time playing.

Easy fix, get a supporting membership and advertise it in the TalkBass Classifieds.

'Course he'da had to do this to offer it up for sale/trade as I mentioned as well but yeah that.

Well, I've bought/traded about 6 basses, 4 amps, 4 cabs and all kinda accessories here on TB. I always tell others, I do my best used bass gear shopping on TB and a few select online stores for new gear.

Last year I traded a '04 MIM Jazz I had sitting around to a local guy for his '06 MIM P Bass. This is my first P bass I've ever owned. I was pretty impressed with it, it now its just sitting around, but more cause I only play 5ers. But I dug the P thing so much I bought a '08 Am St P5 here on TB. Great price on a like new, great bass. I've parked 5 other basses for the P bass now.

Recently, I needed a preamp. I had two Markbass F1's so I traded an F1 straight to a TBer for his Alembic F-1X pre. Guess it all works out if you're getting what you're needing and moving something out you don't use. Seems like OP got the answers' he needed and maybe some he didn't. :D
"It's all good!" (R.I.P Lowboy-fellow bassist; that was his saying)
