Yup, if you don't like it in the long run, just sell it and get another Geddy. Chances are you'll make more than enough to get another used Geddy and another preamp. No worries here man, if you like it, go for it.

Same goes for me. A 5 for a 4 any day. However, for you, I would urge a bit of caution. It's a great trade on paper, but only YOU can decide if a 5 string is for you and even worse, you need to know that a stingray has a very unique tone. Like the cheese, it stands alone. It is an absolutely wonderful cutting tone that simply kills! But the question is does it fit your music? The Ray is NOT going to sound like a Geddy Lee!
So if it were me I'd try to find a way to somehow have both.
Rule: You can never own too many basses!
But if I did the trade, I'd make darn sure that Stingray tone and 5 strings was floating my boat!

Unless your Geddy is platinum coated and you feel a deep spiritual connection to the thing, you're getting more value out of this trade, which you can turn around and leverage in the FS/FT forums if the Stingray doesn't workout.

I would go for it, but I like MMs. Really comes down to how it feels when you play it. As others have said, you would likely be in front anyway if you decided down the track to switch back to a Geddy.
Do it, if just for the keeping up with Jones's factor here on TB where cred can often seem to coincide with the number of strings you have on your instrument. Plus, you get 5 more notes for free which may or not be appropriate for the sort of music you play, and which your rig may or may not be able to handle.

Well, the Stingray is a 5er. Could you really get used to the extra string? If it's not going to be a problem, it sounds like a good trade.
That said, I have a Bongo 5 that I really, really like, but for some reason I keep reaching for my Jazz.

If you KNOW that you can make the big change over to a 5-er happily, it's well worth
a shot, but I know the pain of getting rid of a bass and wanting it back later, all too
well. And.. I once had a 5-er and sold it, as I never got used to it (MY problem, nothing
to do with the bass).

Yes... the Stingray, especially the HH model is much more versitile than the Geddy, I wouldn't have to think twice about that trade!
He's initiating the trade and he doesn't like his bass. Sounds like a good bargaining tool for you. Value wise, depending on condition of each bass the EB might bring around $850-1100, and the Geddy $650-800.
You'd get the better end of the deal, and an even trade would be nice.
Since he doesn't like his bass though he might be open to anything. Ask if he'll throw in $100 for your preamp upgrade. Trade anyway if he doesn't go for it.
More importantly, it's not going to feel anything like a Geddy Lee. If you love the pencil-thin neck of the Geddy, I'm not so sure you'll be happy with the feel of a 5-string 'Ray.

I would do the trade assuming that the basses are in at least equal condition. But I like Music Man basses.

because even adding the Audere pre doesn't add that much value to the Geddy
I would put in the same ballpark as a nice used American Standard Jazz
But if you are going to do a straight trade I would go for it
You will be getting a bass that is at least 500 dollars more in value
I doubt that it would be a straight trade unless the guy just doesnt care
or could care less.
However if you love the Geddy I would keep it
because if you get the 5 string Ray not only would it have an extra string but it
would also have a much wider neck than what you currently play.
You can trade the Sr5 for a SR4 then play that for a bit
decide you dont like it trade THAT for a new Jazz add a new Audere and
you back to where you were before

in feel and sound
