Would you........................?

Beautiful. If I could squander that kind of money...
I just saw this on Reverb.
Nearly $10,000.00!
Specimen Products Luddite Six String Bass 2017 Natural Macassar Ebony and Mahogany
View attachment 2789233View attachment 2789247

Although I like the Macassar ebony top,this bass is MEH!!

There's no cutout for upper register playing!
Skip the whammy and put on some Hipshot detuners?
Nope!
Still not coming home with me!

I could have a Stradi Symphony fretless and an N/S Stick for less that price!!!
Pass.

Would I? No, for 3 reasons:
- Too many strings; waay too many strings;
- No place for it in my herd. I have all the solid body basses I want, thanks;
- It's wrong-handed - for me.
I imagine part of the cost is the time and tool wear it took to make that bass. Ebony is supposed to be very time-consuming to work with, and very hard on tools. I agree about the lack of access to the upper frets. Wouldn't bother me much, as I very,very seldom play up there; but that's just me. As for the price? It doesn't bother me all that much. If I wanted it badly enough, I could write a check for it today. But, I don't, and there are other basses I'd rather spend that much on...;)

I'm not even sure the wood is that pretty... I just keep asking myself why anyone would make such an unattractive, pointless instrument?

It is kinda garish. But I was trying to find something positive to say about it.

I would have also expected some better edge beveling and a tiny bit of thought about practicalities. Guess it's a ceremonial bass and in the same category where you'll find those ceremonial swords you see fraternal organizations use in their rituals.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on any bass. I'm also not a fan of this one. I like 6 strings, I like the SS, but I have no use for a whammy bar and I don't like the wood. Or the headstock shape. It was mentioned earlier in the thread and I agree that it started life as some kind of lap guitar and morphed into some sort of extended scale ukulele bass.
