Come on. You didn't think that all those years spent studying and getting your PhD would actually amount to you having "knowledge", did you ?
yes, the suggestions i've read that have been posted in this thread sound crazy--but so did just about every new idea that anyone's ever had before repeatable results were shown
Exactly. Except those crazy ideas throughout our history would never have become established, if everyone reacted to them as most are reacting to PWB's ideas in this thread: dismissing them out of hand, before even considering testing them.
with all the knowledgeable folks on the forum, i'd be interested to see the results of some controlled testing--it seems a more civilized way to either support or refute the ideas than merely repeating they're all crazy
would anyone be interested in checking some of this stuff out and reporting back to the forum with their results
What's stopping you? The ideas are free. Not everyone, but many, including myself, have heard these crazy ideas and products work.
He was before my time (even on my first account) so he isn't relevant to me. But he just might be judging by his "posts."No, the "greatest troll" trophy still belongs to The Qintar.![]()
According to my quadruple blind tests, you have to lick your fingers after 4 minutes and 44 seconds while wearing a tin foil hat doused in snake oil in order for the best possible quality.CK1, I dig what you're saying. I think it's entirely possible that putting a speaker under blue paper could improve its tone. I have a little trick I do to make my bass sound better...I step in dogcrap, then I scrape it off with a toothpick (plastic only, not wood...wood imparts its own sound to the dogcrap), then I smear it on the strings, and after every 5 minutes of playing time, I lick my fingers to re-energize it. People think I'm crazy, but I'm telling you it works. You should try it sometime. Sounds repulsive at first, but you only have to do it once a set.

Thank you. You don't know me and you're accusing me of being an ignorant drunk.
I've actually said I'll give the ideas a go. I'm not gonna say they're a load of bushwah just 'coz *I* can't hear a significant difference - I'm aware enough of the scientific method and the need to eliminate as many variables as possible to recognise the shortcomings of the "live music" test, but to most of the TB'ers that's the place it counts.
I'm fully aware that a "real world" test actually involving playing an instrument through an amplifier, live, isn't ideal laboratory conditions. So you're saying ahead of time I won't hear a difference? I think that's being as ignorant and presumptuous as you accuse us of being.
Damn those sceptics; why can't they swallow anything we tell them without question? And, yes, you did use the word sceptic as a pejorative. I think you may be confusing your definitions.
I don't even know how people can pretend to have a credible opinion on products they've never seen or tried. I tell people to test things for themselves, not just to analyze their theory, believing that's enough. Sometimes the theory fails, while the product works.
If someone wants to sell me a product whose efficacy is unexplainable by any known scientific or engineering principle, then the burden is on that person to show me credible evidence that the product actually works, not the other way around.
It goes without saying that I know more about this stuff than you do
Good for you, bro. You're exactly what the snake oil salesmen count on.The only "credible evidence" anyone needs to know whether an audio product works, is to listen to it themselves. If that isn't enough for you, than you have more serious problems that can't be solved by any audio company.
Exsqueeze me? Where did I accuse you of being "an ignorant drunk"?
