Wow. These $39 fuses sure make a difference.

You can't go without these. I've got some and they're fantastic. They've stopped all of those pesky bad vibrations and now I'm only pickin' up good vibrations. Amazing really.

"Bad vibrations make bad sound." True in certain contexts, but certainly not in the case of a little potentiometer mounted on the front of your amp.

When I think of bad vibes, I think of acid trips. While I've never been on one myself, I'm sure that once you start coming down, everything is going to sound bad. :D

I was going to post something lengthy, but then forget it.

I used to think "physics" was a good reason to bunk most audiophile claims, but now it seems audiophile product makers are entering the domain of physicists and writing their own theories of the universe to explain how their products work, or simply ignore physics altogether.

So that's out, and we're left with the double-blind tests.

Is the "skeptics and their closed minds" arguement what audiophiles are using to debunk the double-blind test?

CK1, with all the kindness and respect in the world - you're defending a guy who advocates putting a picture of a CD, or a performance venue, in the FREEZER and drawing something on it as a tip for better sound. How can you possibly believe that?

http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue1/beltpen.htm

I'd like to point out, for the record, that the tests detailed in the website are NOT double blind tests, and probably are not even blind tests. I fail to see what they attempt to prove, since they prove nothing to me.

as far as the wood knobs go, then wouldn't it be even better (that is, if you're completely anal and believe this sort of nonsense) to just remove all of your knobs?

and why laquer them? if they really want to reduce vibrations, they should just make their knobs out of solid sorbothane.

jeez, some people.....................

Again, that tells me you don't know what you're talking about. "Changes how we listen" doesn't mean it's "psychological"; if by that you mean illusionary. It's neurological. It changes our ability to listen. It does not change "what we listen for".

So he's good with neurology too? Any proposed neurological mechanisms or explanations? Or is it "neurological" and not "psychological," and thats just how it is?

i dont think they are trying to convince people that dont believe

first you must be open to their argument
and to do so you must embrace the unfounded and the unmeasurable

believe and you will hear the difference

maybe it is not measurable because the difference takes place in the fourth dimension

now just for ducks and as an example, i do know that materials scientists and nanomaterials researchers do find that there are different atomic lattice arrangements for elements and compounds, like gold that can be packed differently and you will have a distinct and measurable difference in mechanical and electrical performance

but that is not what these claims are about

anywhoo, anyone that needs to treat their $39 fuses in liquid nitrogen there are vendors that will do it for you

Some years ago I was doing a session at a Philly recording studio called the Warehouse.I was waiting for someone to finish tracking and there was a big stack of trade magazines.I don't remember if it was Mix or Modern Recording or what.

A lot of studios used Yamaha NS-10's as small monitors then. The Yamaha's tended to be pretty nasty in the high end.A lot of studios put tissue or toilet paper across the front of the tweeters to tame the shrillness. One of these magazines actually tested & did a review of the tone qualities of the various brands of toilet tissue.Ýou know frequency response, listening tests, charts ,etc. Now this was done tounge in cheek but it was professionally done. There was a whole listing . It was hilarious. The audible differences of Charmin vs Scott vs Doeskin & on & on.

In the following issue the letters to the editor section was full of people who took this real seriously. How could they overlook the brand of toilet paper they preferred? How it was about time somebody did do a reveiw of the various brands & they should of included more. You know quack, quack, quack!

The magazine stated that it was ment as a joke. That while it was a real world reveiw it was ment to be funny. It may even of been an April fool gag.

The engineer & I were going to take the top rated brand & repackage it,along with copies of the reveiw,as Audiophile 4%$&**3 roll as a gag gift to our recording studio buddies who used NS-10's.

Yep,the fine audio qualities of toilet paper!

call me crazy, but we always used single ply tp on our NS-10's (still do) and that's no joke. it didn't matter what brand, but it had to be single ply. if you had 2-ply, you can just peel it into single ply. believe it or not, it does actually make a difference in their high end, but that's a drastic modification compared to a gold/cryo fuse or some lacquered wood knobs.

O.K. TB'ers here's what I'm gonna do. I'm playing with an act at the Fairbridge Folk Festival here in Western Australia near Pinjarra (south of Perth) on Friday evening. I'll take a piece of plain paper and place it under one corner of my speaker box. I'll do the same with one corner of my amp, as outlined here:

Is everyone sure it isn't satire? Listening "with more pleasure"?!? That's not even definable or testable. Reminds me of the "prostate health" quack site my friends and I were highly amused by many years ago. In that site's defense, the techniques promoted could be objectively tested (not that anyone would want to be the subject).

Then again, I have an acquaintance who believes in depositing third-party checks sent to him from people he met on the internet, so anything's possible.

No it isn't satire.

This guys been around a while.Like I posted earlier I used to be an audio nut.I started reading about him in the audio mags in the 80's.
At one time he made speakers & headphones. As I posted earlier I did score some PWB phones at a yard sale.I didn't know they were built by THE Peter Belt until yesterday. They are typical electrostatic phones of the time(70's maybe?) & they sort of look & sound like the Japanese STAX headphones.I can't say for sure but it looks like Stax components in the box & headset.Stax was doing some OEM manufacture then. They were probably expensive in their day. They sound nice. A $60 set of Grados sound better to my ear.Mr.Belt became famous /notorious for his tweak products & sound enhancement theories in the 80's when he was written about a lot in the audio press.
I may have some of this wrong & I do not wish or mean to insult or offend his believers but he charges an outrageous sum for his products.
Believe it. He's for real.Stuff like this is why "High End" audio has a bad name.

Not sure which is my favorite pleasure enhancer: blue paper under potted plants, or aligning screw head slots with the surface of the earth.
It is truly astonishing, sad, even frightening, to think that apparently sane people actually believe any of this.

Honestly, I think some of this stuff simply caters to the people
who just want bragging rights to out Jones the Joneses.

Down here in Great Falls and Mclean/Langley where a 10,000 sq. foot home is just their D.C. commuter "cottage" it seems there's virtually no limit.

It used to be a big deal to see a Farrari or Lamborghini, HA!
Child's play!

Drove into one guy's place who had a custom painted 8 passenger
helicopter parked on the front lawn.

Some people just have more money than common sense and
there's plenty of people ready willing and able to help them part
with some of it.

The Audioairclense 9000® replaces the normal polluted, unbalanced air with a mix of totally dry, 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, 0.7% carbon dioxide and 0.3% Argon. This mix ensures absolutely pure listening quality, and removes the characteristicly uneven low end caused by humidity, and the otherwise unavoidable high-end attenuation brought about by small amounts of rare gases in the air.

Maybe they're not sane. Maybe they're insane. Maybe they're out of their minds.
