CK1, I'd be careful before you accuse us of arrogance. Peter Belt seems better versed in psychology than physics, ironically. I would caution you not to confuse the two, and certainly not to mistake one for the other.

Much of what he's addressing is not measurable because it's purely psychological. It changes how we listen, and what we listen for. His methods do not literally and objectively improve sound quality.

If you close your eyes while watching a movie and focus on the audio, details that were not originally noticed will reveal themselves. If your leg is injured, your mind will compensate by shifting your balance and changing how you walk. If you are in a room full of people who claim a red object is blue, you might begin to believe that you're color blind.

I spent a large portion of my undergraduate years exploring human psychology, including the experiments of Milgram and Zimbardo (among others). A vast array of goods in the audiophile market are successful for purely psychological reasons. If you're convinced these goods work for you, then the sellers have done a fantastic job with persuasion. Those same talents could be put to use in counseling sessions, the courtroom, politics...

And on a side note, right angles and rigid structures do exist in nature, particularly at the molecular level.

Not exactly. The thermal section of a thermal-magnetic circuit breaker (like the kind you have in your panelboard at home) does. During overload, the thermal element heats until the mechanism reaches its trip point and causes the interal contacts to open. During a large fault current (aka a short circuit), the magnetic section opens the contacts quickly.
 
It will be no surprise to anyone that the above poster is
likely the gentleman marketing said fuse and is annoyed
at our cavalier attitude towards his product. That is
unfortunate, but let's let rule 1- respect - prevail as
is the custom of TB.
 
Every once in a while I make a little private promise to myself to stop posting here and even stop surfing here. Then it dawns on me...threads like this are why I can't stop coming around. This place is so entertaining...and free. (Well, almost free. I am a supporting member). Still, what a bargain. :p;) Just for the record, I did align all the screw heads on my amps, cabs, and basses in the same direction. It was actually quite time-consuming. Sadly, I noticed absolutely no difference in tone or clarity. :( Maybe I should turn them all a quarter turn in a clock-wise direction and try again? Or counter-clockwise. Or a half turn. :hmm:

I propose a test be done, as follows:

Take one studio-quality CD player.

Take one Cathode-Ray Oscilliscope.

Take one CD with a single track of pink noise on it.

Take one scientific-grade (not education grade) datalogger, and a computer.

Connect the CD-player to the CRO using a $2 cable from radioshack, connect the CRO and CD player to the mains using the stock cables. Connect the Datalogger to the computer and CRO, again using stock leads.

Record exactly 1 minute of pink noise, using the datalogger to plot a graph of Frequency vs. Amplitude (time on the Z axis--decent graphing software will allow this)

Replace all cables & fuses with the $100+ Audiophyle equivalents and repeat the pink-noise recording.

Compare the two graphs and see that they are, once and for all, mathematically and physically, exactly the same.

I think we've already determined the absolute limits of human stupidity, after witnessing you guys trying to out-stupid yourselves in this thread. I don't know where to begin, trying to point out all the stupidity of your collective comments on PWB. To begin with, its painfully obvious you don't know the first thing about the man. Yet you hold yourself up as some sort of expert on Belt, because some other idiot mentioned him in passing, and maybe you went so far as checking out their website.

Not only does Mr. Belt believe everything you read (which you probably don't have the means to understand anyway), but over 1,000 audiophiles participating in a blind test of the man's products are believers as well; with 75% of them having heard differences from Mr. Belt's products.

Probably the stupidest part is: the arrogance of all your comments, the unflinching confidence that you're right, when you were presented with a host of free ideas, and haven't bothered to try a single one. Congratulations, you're the equivalent of a 21st century caveman.

Ok, so you can't even come close to figuring out what he means by that, and you think you're clever debunking your own stupid misconstruction. WHAT a surprise. I know this is gonna be hard for you, but I'll try to help you along...

"Human beings do not like right angles..." doesn't mean they don't like _using_ right angles, Cico. Of course they do. It means that on a level we are not necessarily conscious of, we react poorly to right angles. Why? This is where it gets complicated, and none of you have even begun to try to understand the reasoning, or shown you're even capable of doing so... Because there are no right angles found in nature. We are creatures of evolution. Although we have evolved to handle things like right angles, and many other unnatural objects in our environment, on another lower level, we're not dealing with that properly, and are stressed by the presence of these objects. The stresses in turn lower our ability to hear, and other senses.

I realize none of the PWB hypotheses makes any sense to closed-minded idiots, but then, little does, that wasn't taught in elementary school. Of course you don't have to understand or even believe the theories for the products to work. You do however, have to try them.

Now.... which of you silly hombres here have actually done that? I'd like to hear all about what you tried and how you installed the tweak. The ironic thing about all this is... as reactionary as you all are to these devices, all of you, without exception, could stand to benefit from them. They are the only tweaks I know of that could improve the sound quality of a guitar, for example.

O.K. TB'ers here's what I'm gonna do. I'm playing with an act at the Fairbridge Folk Festival here in Western Australia near Pinjarra (south of Perth) on Friday evening. I'll take a piece of plain paper and place it under one corner of my speaker box. I'll do the same with one corner of my amp, as outlined here:

I'll play the first few songs WITH the paper in place and then remove it about half-way into the set.

On Saturday, I'll try the reef (square) knot in the power cable trick from the same page, although for obvious reasons this will be more subjective as I won't be able to swap the cable in the middle of the bracket.

I'll report back next week with my findings.

Enquiring minds need to know...

BTW any TB'ers at the Fairbridge festival come up and say hello; I'm the ol' fat guy playing with the Matt Gresham band, with bits of plain paper stuck to and under everything and knots in all his cables. You'll also be able to verify any results.

I have a problem: I've upgraded all my basses/amps/electrical circuitry in my house to professional audio-grade ultra high end components but still come to the same limitation to getting pure audiophile sound - the air in my house is not audiophile grade!!

We all know sound waves travel through air - and the makeup of that air can affect how we hear the sound. Humidity level, particulate matter %, even the % of oxygen to nitrogen and carbon dioxide in the air. Does anyone make a device to suck out all the bad air from my studio and replace it with breathable (preferrably) pure audiophile air? Until that point, all my hard work upgrading components has been in vein. :(

Well that is obviously BS. :rollno: Everyone knows you need at least 0.5% Argon for a decent transfer in the 200hz range. :spit:

I'm sorry to have to inform you, but all advertising is false, and no one has ever been held to account for it. After all, this is America, and it is your right to lie as long as it helps you to steal from someone, anyone, who believes your lie. See, that justifies it. A Rube was fooled, and so that's his/her punishment. That never happens to you or me or our Moms or little sisters, right? :hyper:
 
saying things that sound cool is much more effective than providing data that supports your argument,
as a marketing and sales guy, i hear this line of junk all the time,
usually i must leave the room for a few minutes after this declaration,
this premise is the basis for selling products like monster cable
now if you measure it
and
if there is a difference then fine, maybe there is an audio difference

but no matter how many experts i put into a room, and no matter how they may agree,
if there is no measurable difference, then we must collectively agree, that there must be some change, because we all agree that we can hear it

i would declare, if you cannot measure it you cannot hear it

however,
i have a few new products, i take fuses, ac cords, and all sorts of stuff, and i stick them and soak them in liquid nitrogen, you cannot measure the difference, but you sure can hear it, now not everyone can hear it, but a real real audiophile can, in fact this is the test to determine if you are a real audiophile
