Writing songs for dogs

This has the makings of one of the best threads to ever grace the pages of talkbass.

Coming from someone who up until a couple months ago lived with 4 dogs and 4 cats. Currently, due to old age and new life, it's 3 dogs and 5 cats.

Yes, they are family members, not property. They all get spoken to in, and understand sentences, not 1-word commands. I like ratfur covered gear and store it/place it in such a way so they can all enjoy it too.

You know, I've never written one singular homage to my pup, Otis. But I do frequently play towards/at him and see how he reacts.

I've found it be a good improv exercise to watch him run around the apartment doing his thing and trying to provide what I think the soundtrack might be like, if he had thumbs and was interested in bass, of course.

This is Charlie.

Mellowinman, nice collection of pooches. Charlie was a rescue. My daughters family had two shitzu's only one now. My son's family had the best husky in the world. We previously had a husky. With my health problems and Charlie's clumsiness one is good for us right now.

Now that is a cool thread, mellowinman, and beautiful happy dogs you and hypanuse have
Our dog is officially named Martin but we call him Booboo. So yesterday I happened to start singing the Booboo Boogie for him. It goes like this, for now: Its the Booboo Boogie. Booboo boogie. Booboo booboo Booboo booboo Boogie.. Then repeat

Maybe i'll come up with more verses later.

You have certainly accepted the spirit of this, and Booboo is a definite winner!

Great thread.

Our dog is 22.5 human years old, or 157.5 in dog years. Just these last few days, he's started to have trouble with urination and I fear his kidneys are shutting down... it is close to end of days now.

He gets the same filtered, boiled-then-chilled water we drink, and we make his food and mix in a bit of commercial dry food. Very easy to make the dog food in big batches and freeze it etc, and very healthy for the dog.

A few years back I wrote an instrumental tune called "Walking BB", which was inspired by, and captures (I think), how he behaves while out and about. Alas, these days, he can barely stand to eat or drink and sleeps most of the time. A stark difference from the feisty little Shihtzu that chased the St. Bernards and other big dogs down the path.

I'll try to edit in a pic, maybe even add a snippet of the instrumental, later. BB's awake and I'm going to help him drink some H2O.

Oh, and yesterday I watched a movie about [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], today I found this thread. Thank you Mellowinman.

Zilla often gets a few rounds of I'm a Retriever.

"Then you threw a stick. Now I'm a retriever."

Perfect!

Our Belgian Shepherd is the great ball chaser. Now I'll have a song for him too.

I thought "fetch" was only true in fairy tales

Meant for Labradors, but not for me

But fetch was out to get me

Do do, do do

That's the way it seemed

Do do, do do

Disappointment haunted all my dreams

Then I saw the ball

Now I'm a retriever

Just a tennis ball

went out of my mind

I'm in love

I'm a retriever

I couldn't stop it if I tried.
