Wyn Basses

Pretty impressive work. The recordings sound excellent.

The thing I would have a concern about would be the weights. He appears to use a lot of pretty dense materials. I sort of expect them all to be 10 pounds plus.

If he could make a 6 and get it in the 9.5 pound sort of comfort range, that would get my interest.

The 5-string I just reviewed weighed in at 9.5 lbs.

Yeah, 1/2" would be the max, considering the 34.5" scale. I think he offers 34" as an option. At any rate, the top horn strap button is located at the 12th fret.

unless im seeing things, the pictures in this thread look like the top horn ends between the 12th and 13th fret. something that makes a fender style bass so comfortable to me is that the top horn ends between the 11th and 12th. thats whats made something like a vf5 so nice is that the horn is in that fender spot. my old fodera was miserable to play and did that horn between the 12 and 13th thing.

That photographs in the review make it look a little further south than it is, but on mine the top of the strap button on the horn is very close to the 12th fret. But yeah, compared to having the horn itself end between the 11th and the 12th, I can see where you might notice that, if you were really tuned in to that reach.

Played quite a few at NAMM and one of Randy's basses is definitely on my wish list. I was really drawn to the basses with wenge/bubinga necks. That combo just had the greatest low mid punch going on.

This is simply my favorite bass. The sound is just about perfect. He gets a thicker tone than anyone out there, if you ask me, and bassists need this kind of bottom. It is very heavy, but the construction and craftsmanship are so beautiful and unique that I feel it justifies the heavier materials. I should mention that I did opt for a brass bridge, so that's why mine breaks ten pounds. In terms of playability, my 6 has to have the thinnest neck I've ever seen. I don't have an exact measurement, but my hand has never cramped or gotten tired (unless I'm running scales and licks for hours or something). It's a great bass overall. Fodera and Sadowsky were always my favorite basses. I loved the way Foderas played, and I love the way Sadowskys sounded. I asked Randy to keep this in mind, and he gave me my dream instrument. I can't say enough about that man's character or his work. If you have the money, buy one. You will not be disappointed.
