Xaviere "Slick" SLPB Basses

I had the slick version of their les paul look alikes. Supringsingly decent. The neck was so nice, I might have been lucky getting a really good one. I got the black one and the relic isnt over the top. It had a very funky smell on the upper part of the cutaway. The pickups were not to my liking tho. Kinda lacking. I traded it for a Squier CV 50s precision in butterscotch and I am happier now. :)

Well, the SL57 recieved a Guitar Player editors pick, but it is basically the closest thing they have to a standard Strat.
The coolest color they had (Black ash, pictured) has been discontinued. The scale, nut width, and radius, ARE listed for the guitars. I imagine the bass listings will be updated shortly.

I've yet to see one in the wild, and there are so many playable guitars in this price range... I find it hard to justify ordering one, especially a bass.

Looks like competition for Rondo - not so much for Sire, I'm guessing.

Hey. You took my response!

These look like some SERIOUS competition for Rondo. Not sure what the deal is with the newer Rondo headstock, but I have to guess that has cost them a lot of business over the years. I've owned 3 SXes and 1 Douglas. The Douglas was worth the money IMO, I wasn't a big fan of any of the SXes. I liked the SX guitars though. Had 2 of them also, and thought they kicked butt for a little over 100 each.

Anyhow... if I weren't buried in basses right now I'd pull the trigger on one of those in a heart beat. Once people start to do that, if they're any good, I think this might very well be the new Rondo.

I sent an email inquiry to the folks at GuitarFetish.com, and got some more info on the Slick SLPB basses. Their reply:

Yes, that is a volume knob.

Yes, the scale is 34”.

The nut width is 42mm.

The neck is a little skinnier than a standard Pbass, maybe a shallow C is a good description.

At this time there are no plans for a Jbass, but you never know!

So there you go. I told them that if they updated the listings for the SLPB's, they might want to include this info.

It would also be nice to know the fretboard radius. They have some basses with 9.5" but many of their guitars are 12".

I had a Xaviere LP JR copy that they no longer sell. It was okay. I wasn't too impressed with the fret work on it. I ended up getting a partial refund because of finish flaws on the back of the body. It sounded decent; the pickup seemed good; but we just couldn't really bond and I ended up selling it for about what I paid for it.
