^ this is what im talking about.... its not even that the PS3 has a fair amount of advantages.... its that the 360 shouldnt even be considered based on the failure rate.

And the online for 360 just gets me mad.......
So let me get this straight... I pay like $300 for the system.... buy myself a game for $60.... pay comcast $45 for one month of internet.... and microsoft thinks that I still owe them some money if I want to use the game online? ummmm no. I already paid for the system, game and net service... i shouldnt owe any extra money

They don't think you still owe them money. They're just charging it because, considering the overwhelming amount of people who happily pay for live, why not?

You missed the point. Nintendo are brilliant.

If I remember right the Wii has sold almost as many units as the PS3 and 360 combined. Nintendo saw that there were two massive companies concentrating on developing these super powerful games consoles, and with the Gamecube realised that they would be hard pressed to compete.

So what did they do? Essentially re-released the Gamecube.. with a motion based controller. The hardwear they used is both tried and true, hence the low failure rate, and also cheap as chips. Allowed them to release the console into the market at quite a modest price too.

While the 360 and PS3 compete directly with one another, and people rarely own both, but the Wii? I know a whole heap of people who own both a PS3/360, and a Wii.

Combine Nintendo's gimmicks, with its great range of exclusive games, and you get $$$ :D

My son has a 360, I asked him last year if he wanted a PS3, didn't seem too interested. He has a Wii as well. Well had one anyway. Since he never uses it I put in the living room so the wife can use the Wii Fit series.

The 360 is actually the second or maybe even 3rd one he has had due to Red Ring of Death and games that freeze up.

As for the Wii's motion control; I've been checking out the new 360 and PSP3's motion controllers they have set up everywhere for the last couple of weeks. Their response is VERY impressive to me. Due to the unreliability of the XBox in general I have to question how long that will last due simply due to the moving parts. Just looks like a recipe for quick failure given their record thus far.

Luckily for me with him being 15 he's not showing a lot of interest this year. Busy chasing too many skirts. Lol

Some of the games are fantastic, but many of them also succumb to the gimmick scheme. Mario Galaxy is the epitome of that to me. They have a fantastically successful series, one that has taken off in 3d, and then they had to over d it that little bit.

On the flipside of that, I really like the Paper Mario for it, and the New Super Mario title. Twilight princess was good too.

We use our wii in the apartment as much as we use my 360, but only because of the fact that the girlfriends and their cute friends like the wii games better, and its a lot more fun to play inebriated.

Back on topic, the 360 is designed stupid on the inside, but the ps3 isn't much better. Microsoft at least fixes their mistake, sony calls the YLoD "user error." It cost me zilch to get my 360 fixed, but we had to homebrew fix the ps3 or pay sony $150. The new slims for both are supposed to be invincible, but the proof will come with time.

My 360 elite 120gig has been on 18/20 hours a day since I bought it used from another gamer. Netflix, CoD, streaming from my computer, it's made my living room into a living room with no cable. Like I said, it's definately on 18 hours at a stretch with no rrod here. Don't be cheap and buy a white one, get the elite or the slim and you're set.

I got an elite almost a year ago now. No problems as yet, however I don't use it a whole lot.

There is one quarrel I have with it... ITS BLOODY NOISY. Seriously. Apparently this is the quietest drive too. I think its faulty, I might take it back and get a replacement soonish.

PS3 only costs $150 when it's out of warranty. And I've heard WAY more reports of 360's dying than PS 3's. I've had a PS 3 for about 8 years now, It died on me once about 5 years ago, paid the $150 as it was out of warranty, the replacement they sent me died a few hours after I got it, as it was under a 30 day extended warranty, I got it replaced free within a week. I was without a PS 3 about 2 1/2 weeks total, and It's been trouble free for about 5 years now, and I use it at least a few hours every day, if not for games, for watching blu-ray discs or Netflix.
As far as games for the Wii go, I find them childish, and I am sick to death of Mario, Link, and Donkey Kong. Basically the Wii games hold absolutley NO appeal to me.

No, it costs $150 in warranty or at least that was our experience. And I seriously doubt you've had a PS3 for 4 years longer then they've been out.

No that part is right, I'm positive. It costs $150 to get a replacement only when it's out of warranty. Like I said, when you get a replacement, you get a 30 day warranty for the replacement unit. When my replacement unit went belly up a few hours after I got it, as it was still well within the new warranty period, I got yet another replacement within a week, completely free of charge (free shipping, too). As far as that "4years longer than it's been out" you're probably right about that, I don't know. I can't really remember exactly when I got it. (at my age, the memory is the second thing to go). When exactly did the PS3 come out? The one I got was bought used at a Gamestop, (5 years ago??) it was one of the early units that still had the backwards compatability for PS 1 and PS 2 games.

Ehh. They came out around 06. We got ours in 08 and it belly upped within 6 months of our owning it. Sony wasn't very friendly to me on the telephone either, but then again maybe my sample isn't representative of everyone else's. Something I really didn't like was being told it was my fault that their poorly designed console failed. I know we want small consoles and all, but trying to suck the heat those things produce out through a small copper straw is just ridiculous.

See the copper straw ^? Yeah that's the only amount of air that gets taken off the GPU and CPU. Ingenious, right?


That being said, the new one hasn't failed. But both consoles have a high fail rate (360's topped out at 45% or better when they first started fixing them, and ps3's fail rate rests around 12%), and in my profession that isn't acceptable, and I feel like it shouldn't be with electronics either.

That wasn't my experience at all. Nothing but great service for me. It took maybe three weeks total to get a unit that is still working to this day, no problem (knock on wood).

No. You might have to install games to make them work right or faster, and game saves add up really quickly. I have a 20 gb full, and I have no music, movies, etc saved on mine.

Of course it took me close to 3 years to get to this point though.
