xp service pack 3.....

mine installed fine....at work too...
althought every time I restart, the STUPID LANGUAGE TOOLBAR keeps popping up on my taskbar. i've turned that thing off 10 times already.

Everything went flawless for me as well. I installed it on my laptop and desktop. All the changes are under the hood. You won't recognize a bit of difference...

hahahahahahahahahaI agree, I just enjoy me a smart***.
Anyone with at least 3 gigs or ram can run Vista smoothly, any extra just makes running multiple processes that much easier. I have 6 gigs and it runs SO much smoother than XP ever did.
How To Disable The Language Bar in Windows XP ?
To close the Language bar (using Classic view in Control Panel) :
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and Language Options.
2. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details.
3. Under Preferences, click Language Bar.
4. Deselect the Show the Language bar on the desktop check box.
That is it. You will never again see the Language Bar annoying you again.

Puh-lease. As someone with WAY too much ME experience I can tell you that Vista is in no way comparable to ME. Have you used Vista since SP1?

I've installed it on 3 PCs recently, ranging in age from 1 to 4 years old - no problems with any of them.
I haven't. I was SO frustrated with most aspects of Vista I scrapped it and went back to XP. Then, I read more than a few reports that SP1 was causing a lot of issues. I had no need and/or desire to try Vista again.
That's really a shame, I've taken a liking to it. But I bet the machine you have, spec'd for Vista, but running XP, really smokes...
The system really does run great. Plus, I know all the XP tricks to milk the OS for what it's worth.
I really see NO reason to switch to Vista, as long as you can live without the purdy GUI.

If you wigging out about installing SP3 make sure you have System Restore enabled and when the install asks you if you want to backup the original files say yes.
My home computer has had no issues. The comupters at work had a few issues with firewall scripts that were written for Service pack 2. The scripts are for allowing printing to certain invoicing printers. I tried to install a program yesterday on my computer at work and it aborted installation and said i was running an uncertified operating system. I checked tech support from the software vendor and it said if i was running XP SP3 that there is a workaround for it. I did it and it worked great. So far, there hasn't been too many issues.
