JT, you were over at namm, did you get a chance to check these out? i'm interested how a multi string vet. like you handled a bass like this if you played one, i thought your 8 fret board looked like an aircraft carrier, this looks worse...

hee hee. i suck on tap/fretboard/stick-like instruments. about 6 years ago i was seriously considering getting a stick, then i played one, and i realized i was useless on it. i think these mobius megatars are the same kind of beastie.

I've got a Warr 12-string. It's an older low-end model:

I suck at it. I got it used for a pretty good price so I figured 'what the hell'. Once in a while I pick it up and mess around with it. I'd like to do more two-handed tapping stuff on my bass but it's just not a priority right now. It's fun though! I can play the piano part from Dave Brubeck's Take Five on it. I play it with this guitarist that plays the lead on it. It's really cool!

If you have any doubt about how cool these instruments really are, check out Jim Wright playing Coltrane's Impressions ( he's playing the black Warr in the picture you posted ):

Here's a static pic from about the same time:

Here's my favorite Warr pic:

Finally! we find somone who has more strings on a single bass than JT that isnt octive strings, or a double neck (your 14 strings on that double neck doesnt count)

well, strictly speaking, that's not a bass, that's a touch-style instrument. :D

oh, and hey dave, i think i saw him playing that - i recognize that pic, with the marble roscoe in front - that was at the bartolini booth, right? next to the mobius megatar booth at the namm show this past year in annaheim, right?

Yup. I wonder if we crossed paths at some point. I hadn't been to talkbass yet so I wouldn't have known who you were then.

possibly. this year in annaheim bill will probably have a booth of his own, as opposed to sharing the booth with westheimer. if so, that's where i'll be for a lot of the show - if you're going again, maybe we can hook up and compare notes. :D

Dave - I assume that is a tapping instrument like the Chapman Stick. A few years ago there was an Italian company called Santucci (or something like that) that made a guitar called the Treblebass (or something like that) that had 4 bass strings and 6 guitar strings on the one neck. Your instrument reminds me of this.

I'm planning on going. As long as my friend can come through with the passes again. I'll keep an eye out for you. The passes I get usually have someone else's name on them because the guy who gets them for us doesn't always know who is going. So don't be surprised if you see me with someone else's name on my tag.

Yeah. Warr Guitars are like a cross between a stick and a high-end bass. I've heard of the Treblebass and have seen pics of them before. They're pretty rare, I think.
