Hey guys. anyone owned an ATT SPL and upgraded the E tuner to a hipshot xtender?

Which hipshot xtender is best for this? I was informed by hipshot that they dont make the 3-screw tuners anymore and that the ones used on the LTD II's are not available for resale as Yamaha orders them in bulk. I'll have to settle with one of those fender-fit models. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I joined the club yesterday! Found this one locally and used it last night at band rehearsal. I've been told by the rest of the band to never bring another bass other than the Attitude. Man this thing sounds and plays good!

I just received my 9th Attitude Limited... and the 3rd first generation LTD I've owned.

I picked it up at a Guitar Center in Florida... and it turns out it is FloridaSams's old LTD. All the dings match and the center knob is a different style.

Has the mojo I love about Attitudes. It's also nice and light at 9 lb 6 oz. Even came with a coffin case.

Most amazing of all is that all of the original electronics are still intact.

FloridaSam... any idea who "JP" is?

Here is my long time friend and the only Attitude I have ever kept... Everything has been replaced except body and neck.... Dimarzio X2N in neck and Dimarzio Model P in middle. I cut the scoop at the bottom of the neck to make slapping easier... Also made the finish matte seafoam.

jschwalls... I've been wanting to ask you where you installed the X2N-B. My Attitude Custom has an original Dimarzio neck pickup stamped "X2N" (hidden under the pickguard). I'm assuming Yamaha used the guitar version at the time since the part number does not include a "B."

How does the X2N-B sound compare to the neck pickups you've had in your two Attitude Limited's?

Actually I installed the X2N .. I did not go with the X2N-B... I wanted clarity over low end...

I guy I know installed the X2N-B and loves it he said it has much better low end than the Dimarzio Model One and the output is much higher making the balance more even.

There is discussion that the X2N and the X2n-B are the same pickup. Although Dimarzio shows different specs for each..

I'm playing with the idea of ordering a Yamaha Attitude LTD 3 in sonic blue. I was looking at pictures of one on ebay that is for sale and the grain of the maple neck doesn't look very stable. Near the neck the grain just looks wrong to me. I've been a woodworker all my life and have worked with 1000's of feet of maple and I like to think I have some experience with grain patterns and their stability. Anyhow, can some of you post pictures of your LTD 3 necks so I can see the grain patterns and what might be typical for these basses. The one I saw for sale really turned me off. Thanks.

I don't have any pictures of it, but mine is flat sawn maple. The same cut that's used on pretty much all of my basses, except for the ones that are laminates and the one that is quarter sawn.

No stability issues at all.

Does Yamaha put any reinforcement rods in the LTD 3 necks?

I've owned nine Attitude LTDs including two LTD3... and I've never seen or read anything to indicate that any Attitude Limited has ever had any kind of reinforcement rod in the neck... other than the truss rod.

As for the LTD3, Yamaha states...

"The neck on the ATT LTD3 is designed with double action rod that leaves more wood volume making it highly resonant."

I'd been looking for a P-Bass for a while, but something was always missing for me. Love the mid-range bark, but I wanted deeper lows...like the Mike Watt "Thunderbroom" sound.

Just picked this guy up:

So far, I'm deeply impressed. It plays like an absolute dream and the tone is pure thunder. Here it is with my other "go-to" basses: a mid-'70s Jazz and first-generation Ibanez GWB-1:

Congrats on picking up a first generation Limited that looks to be in great shape.

All three series of Limiteds share a similar feel and tonal signature... but they also have some distinctive differences.

I've made the rounds and come full circle with Limiteds... currently really enjoying my Thunder Blue First Gen as well.

(I've also owned a couple GWB-1's in natural and a GWB-2... and a silver Evo-8 and a dark grey Evo-9 MR)

I'm trying to find out more about the cases.

Mine came in an SKB-style case and it's a very poor fit. I know the first-generation ATT LTD came with a very nice hardcase that was fully fitted to the bass. The newest ATT LTD case seems to be just a generic G&G hardcase without any fitting at all. What about the second-generation LTD? I'm trying to find a case and need to know what to ask for.

It's a bit challenging to remember about the cases. Both of my LTD3 came with the OEM non-fitted case. I had a purple 10X and I vaguely recall that the OEM case was also non-fitted. One of my LTD2 also came with a non-fitted OEM case... and the others had non-original bags or cases. All three of the LTD1 I've owned came with a non-original case/bag.

The Attitude has a long headstock so many cases come up short.

My current LTD1 fits great in the Washburn molded case that came with my SHBH1. The SHBH1 has a small body so the case came with two cushions that squeeze into place at the waist on each side of the body to keep it from shifting around. The cushions also work with the Attitude.

I have a vague recollection of test fitting an Attitude in a molded generic SKB "fitted" P/J case and having it fit decently.

Have you checked the Attitude Facebook Group for an answer? I deleted my Facebook account a couple years ago... but the Attitude Group was a great resource... and very active.

I have a question about the Limited 3, why doesn't Billy Sheehan make this into an active bass?
Is it because of the endorsements? LOL

Is this bass guitar versatile or is it rock only?

I'm really interested in getting a 4 string bass and this one is on the list because it's so unique in construction. I can tell that a lot of thought has gone into this bass, and I'm not talking about cosmetic stuff, but actual playing ability and construction. I'm going to demo this thing in two weeks time. The only problem is that there seems to be so little youtube videos of someone actually playing this bass I am not sure what to expect. I know Yamaha isn't too popular even though they make good instruments. (maybe because of price and brand) but from what I gather, this bass is really good and I'm surprised people haven't picked it up.

Can someone fill me in on the tone of this bass and what one can expect?

Making this bass active will not make it sound better, in my opinion. As for the tone and construction quality, it is one of the best precision-like basses money can buy. It is suitable for many different styles but I must confess that I mainly use my Limited 3 for rock. I use an Ibanez Grooveline for most other music styles.

Totally agree!
No reason why this bass should be active.
Billy has always gotten with his tone with passives.

I wouldn't say its the most versatile bass in the world but, you can still get different sounds out of it.
More so if you are running it stereo.
