Yamaha BB2025X @ Musician's Friend!

I am certain these will be great basses, but as I said on another thread, I think their biggest impact will be overseas. In America, their pricing will put them head to head with new boutique basses, and many would probably choose a Metro or Lull over a passive Yamaha P/J.

+1 Doc. for that kind of coin, I'd DEFINITELY go boutique.

I like the look and the idea behind what they did to the wood to get it to sound vintage, but is there a shortage of older, potentially age seasoned Yamaha BB style P/J basses out there? Most of those can be had for around $400 - $500, right? I guess it is a fiver though...

Plus, I'm sure that the tone aging process they put these through gives a good tone, but would anybody really be able to differentiate one of these from a less expensive P/J made of the same woods in the mix?

Love that bass. Always have thought the world of Yamaha BBs. But that price point is delusional. I'll be surprised if they last for second model year.

If I run across a used one for $800, then it's mine!!!

Read the description. Sounds like this bass has been rubbed with a lovely variety of snake oils!!! No wonder they want the bank for it!!!

Nice bass. Really nice bass. Not $2.8K nice though. $1.8K, sure. That's EBMM territory but if the bass is nice, then it's nice. Too bad the headstock's not body color matched. The cream color would be drool-worthy with a matching HS. Not digging the blade pups either; they just don't go.

Will the lower cost BB1024s and BB1025s be available in the U.S.? Anybody hear anything about that? Will the BB414 be replaced by the upgraded BB424?

Exactly. If I could snag one of those fivers for @1$K, I would. They look like they are a great combo of a solid modern five with a nice touch of the old BBs.

The new 2024x/25x series is a good illustration of why Japanese companies make so few instruments in Japan anymore. Like America, labor costs forces them to make gear only for the high end of the instrument market. Once again, I am certain these Yamahas are every bit as nice Alleva-Copolos or Fender Custom Shop basses, I just think it will be hard to move them at those prices.
