it's a great playing bass.... i love the neck profile, it's not wide at all, and the shallow C shape is really comfortable for me.

IMO, Yamaha bb414 is really a true PJ bass - PJ pickups for one, and the neck which is something between P and a J.
Simple to use, simple to get a good tone, plus it's not expensive... Looks nice too!:):):)

Heh! Queue onslaught!

It's all preference... I've seen bassists wear their basses up on their chins. Not my personal taste, but I've found the higher I have it, the easier it is for slap... in terms of finger playing, I like it a lot further down. I've been told off by my bass teacher recently for my slap technique, and now I've raised my strap and changed my technique, I'm getting a lot better! :P

I think I'm going to invent the "Hipshot hip-to-chin strap". I'll call it the "Chipshot" :D Patent pending ;)

Sweet! How does it sound with the Seymour Duncans? I have an RBX260 (it was my first bass, served me well!) that I've just taken to pieces to refin and put a pickguard and a bigger bridge on, and I might just splurge on putting some new pups in too... :bassist:

The Seymour Duncans sound great. The quarter pounders are definitely not noiseless though. They have that single-coil hum.

Since this is the place to rave about Yamaha, and since I'm a member of the club. :smug:

I really want to express my love for Yamaha again.

I ordered two Corts, but cancelled them.
I considered Cort cause no stores in my area carry Yamaha. :hmm:

But now I've discovered Thomann.de and can order a Yamaha from there. :hyper:

My RBX260F is still a bass I adore so much.
Gonna modify it: have SD SPB-3 pups on order, gonna order a Badass II bridge, new strings, Hipshot D-tuner. :cool:
(I'll post pics when it's finished.)

I'm gonna order an RBX170 (or 270) fretted to modify also. Gonna try to place a humbucker or piezo at the bridge. :ninja:

And in the near future I also want to order a RBX 4A2 and have it defretted. Too bad Yamaha doesn't offer that much fretlesses. :hmm:

I just love the RBX range so much. About the nicest basses I ever played.
A TRB is also tempting, but I don't like a 35" scale. :rolleyes:
Never tried a BB. How is that like?


I'm gonna sell my Fender Jazz. That's how much faith I have in Yamaha.
They've won my heart.

Just wanted to share with you guys.

I forgot it was you who reassured me that I could fit the SPB-3 pups and the Badass II bridge on my RBX.

Now if I also gonna go for the d-tuner.

Come to think of it: my modded RBX will be the fretless version of your modded RBX. :)
Except I only want a d-tuner for the E-string.

You mean the quarter pounds P/J set? Yes they fit right in. They sound great with the Seymour Duncan on-board pre-amp. The Quarter Pounder jazz bridge pickup is noisy though.

The drop-d tuner also does screw right on. Works well too!

Come to think of it: my modded RBX will be the fretless version of your modded RBX. :)
Except I only want a d-tuner for the E-string.

The only thing I don't like about my RBX is the cheesy headstock shape. I much prefer the shape of the BB headstock. Too bad Yamaha BB necks are not easy to come by without having to buy the entire instrument.

Your RBX originally had just the P-style pick up, right?
You added the J pup?
If so, nice job.
But I don't prefer a P/J config. Just gonna replace the P-style.

I like the shape of the head. Liked it from the start.
When I first bought my RBX it was also because I thought it was very good looking.

But for your preferences, it would be cool if you would succeed with replacing the neck.

Yes, it required some routing for the bridge pickup.

I don't know, I don't use the tapping technique, so I can't comment on the sound you're going after.

Well, it looks like I've got to experiment on that then. :)

That's why I probably go for the 170. I will not be messing up an expensive instrument.
But it's the same as the 200 series, only lesser quality wood I guess.
Besides that I know it will be a bass with a nice feel.

All the low-end RBX'es have cr*ppy stamped metal bridges. That was the first thing I swapped out.
