Yamaha Owners

I love...LOVE my Yamaha...RBX170...one of their lowest end basses, and theres no frills to it, but

here's what it has.
-a GREAT GREAT neck.
-level frets
-decent pickups
-(Plays like butter, sounds GOOD!)

here's what it doesn't have
-fantastic tuners (they work good, bass stays in tune just fine...they're just not the smoothest tuners in town is all)
-fantastic bridge (not as good as a Badass or a Hipshot), basic bridge (just like 95% of all fenders out there)...but it works just fine.

When you can't touch a middle of the road bass here in Aus for much less than $1K...it's nice to know that you can always pick one of these puppies up for a "buck-fitty" to "two hunny"

Yamaha RAWKS!

I'm a recent Yamaha owner

Heres my bad girl (yet to be names, suggestions?)

I have a TRB4-II that plays very smoothly - almost like 'squeezable buttah', and I'm VERY happy with it, using D'Addarios on it, and I have the RBX-JM2 on order (should be here mid December). I love the feel of the Yamahas, and I've gotten pretty darn good deals on them. If I was playing out a heck of a lot more, I'd plunk down for a sweet high-end bass, but for the money I've spent, the Yamaha has served me well in both jazz and heavy rock settings plus a couple one-shots in churches.

Have you had the bass set up properly? mine needed some bridge hieght adjusting to accommodate my strings and tuning,...I had fret buzz from the first fret esp on the d and g strings,..the g string even had a bit of buzz on the 2nd fret,..after I reset it everything has been excellent. Rock On !!

BTW any of you have the Yamaha Bass amp ??? Are they discontinueing it??

Yamaha Attitudes all the way. P Bass on steroids. It also functions kind of like a Ric with the dual outputs...but is more friendly to finger style players. A great bass.

I sure hope so... I am waiting on my first Attitude Ltd.(a purty red one!) Just got it off the 'bay. :hyper: Looking fwd to comparing it to my trusty P-bass.

I will post pics and my review when it shows..

Currently TRB5P and TRB5IIF. Love both of them.
Many argue TRBs have a very HiFi sound, but with little EQ adjustments you can really get such a WIDE variety of tones... when in need of an extra tweek, I put the 5P through a Yamaha NE1... AWSOME!!!! :hyper:

Here's a Pic of the 5P (a.k.a. Dr.Pepper), I'll upload one of the 5IIF (a.k.a. Mr.Fred) asap...

My Friends,

My first bass (that wasn't a complete P.O.S. or a loaner) was a Yamaha BB300, candy apple red finish, purchased for me by my parents as a Christmas Gift in 1986. It has been modified a bit and has been refretted twice, but I still own the bass and it would be the very last instrument I would ever let go of. It is currently strung B-E-A-D and the tone is just earth-shakingly unreal. I also own a BB-300 from the same era that I defretted.

More recently, I purchased a Yamaha RBX4-A2 A.I.R bass due to a lot of my back/neck problems and am still ASTOUNDED at the tone. I strung this one with Rotosound Funkmasters and the tone is bright and zippy while still being very, very deep.

Now that I think about it, the only bass I own that isn't a Yamaha is a Hartke bass I recently purchased at an estate sale, with SKB case, for $75. Needed set up very badly and a new set of strings, but the playability and tone are excellent.

I have yet to play a Yamaha bass that I don't care for - I have owned and let go of several others, all of which were excellent basses.

If I had my choice and unlimited funds, I would still choose passive Yamaha basses (especially the BB-series) over any other basses I have ever tried.
