Yamaha trb 6 onboard preamp

Hi everyone!
A friend of mine give me his Yamaha trb6 1 series Made in japan.
Unfortunately the bass has not the original onboard preamp.
I’m searching for an old ORIGINAL 90’ trb on board preAmp.
Please let me know if someone could sell it!
I will pay immediatly.

This would make more sense if posted in the classifieds "wanted to buy"...think you need a supporting membership, though. May be a pipe dream but worth a try. What is the existing preamp if any? If a wash, I'd re-post in a "Yamaha Fan-Boy" thread as these guys could probably suggest an aftermarket replacement that will get you pretty durn close.

You’re right.
I’m new here and don’t know how to do.
At now , my yamaha has an AD electronics, 3 band with balance pot and volume. The same conf of the original one but i don’t like at all.

Gotta ask: what's your budget and where are you located? This will narrow the range of suggestions!

I wish you luck, but I think another aftermarket preamp is probably going to be easier to source, and more reliable over a long haul.
The original control pots for that TRB are probably mounted directly on a circuit board sized specifically for that model, and if they're anything like the ones on my BB5000AF, they will probably be showing signs of age even if they haven't seen heavy use.
If my tech could find & install quality replacement pots, I might give that a try when the time comes on my bass. I will almost certainly not try to source another 30 year old assembly and drop it in as-is. (Unless maybe I got super lucky & found a salvage in great shape for dirt cheap.)
There is no 100% guarantee of sonic satisfaction with aftermarket, but I like my odds. There are many excellent offerings out there now, and '90s Yamaha voicing isn't anything super special IME/O.

Did a little research and two aftermarket offerings (...among many!) caught my eye as suggested by Yamaha owners / users. On the expensive side, we're looking at the John East Uni-Pre. On the more cost-conscious side, consider the Audere classic module...this is what I use almost exclusively.

Pretty sure you need to be a bit more specific as there are various generations of the TRB6 with different preamps. AFAIK the basses made in the 90s were TRB6P. The TRB6P I have has regular bridge and neck pickups. Additionally there is a piezo on each bridge saddle. Controls are Volume, Blend, Bass, Treble, Piezo Blend, Piezo Phase. It has a neck through body.

IMHO, odds of finding the part you want are probably pretty low. I suggest the first step would be to try and find the appropriate service manual, which may have part numbers. Yamaha is probably long out of spares, but knowing the correct P/N will help you avoid wasting time and money buying parts that won't work.

Also, if the bass does not have the original pickups, the original preamp may not be the best choice.

Is it possible to know the manufacture’ year? Theres a serial number in the headstock

You can ask Yamaha or find someone who upgraded their TRB pre. MY suggestion would be to get the John East Uni as there are other controls i the module for the bass sound, like pre-shape, flat, where the bass shelving is at, pickup gain, plus there is a passive mid and passive bypass. I could also suggest the Michael Pope. I only have one on one bass but since I did not install it, I do not know what all the doodads are on my bass which I bought used.

Pretty sure that is a 90s era instrument.

This bass has the cut-away on the body. Pretty sure this is a second generation TRB6, as the 1st gen basses had the piezos.

It's not necessarily the same as a TRB6 II, as the manual I found shows no body cut-way. Yamaha Guitar 11391 Users Manual TRB 6II (usermanual.wiki) Looks like spacing for the controls is the same as for your bass.

I believe the TRB JP and TRB JP2 had the cutaway and it looks like spacing for controls matches your bass as well.

I know what it's like to OCD over a specific detail, but in this case may not be practical. Just go with an Aguilar or a Darkglass it will probably sound better. And if it doesn't hit the mark resell it, they are popular and have resale value so you don't stand to lose big$$ if they disappoint. I bought a used Aguilar preamp for a 5 string and it cost me a pretty penny!

Don't know where you are in the world, but Yamaha is worldwide and the only true exact replacement would come from them, and I'd far prefer a new, original replacement (if they can still be had) from them than a takeout off one of similar age. Yamaha has consolidated its guitar operations to California, and for parts requests, EMail at [email protected] <[email protected]>;

There are guys who could troubleshoot and fix yours, if you'd know how to find them. Again, don't know where you are. Yamaha might direct you to someone like that.

On the other hand, this is simplified as it's not the 6-string TRB with a piezo, and a vol/fader/highs/mids/bass cut/boost preamp that would work would be fairly easy to source from several of the makers quoted above, and there's probably a few more we haven't thought of.

I asked yamaha if it was possible to buy the original pre for my trb.
nope…that’s why i’m asking you.
Think it’s better to try the original one preamp before testing others, if possible.
