Yeah, I Wore Shorts!

It's not uncommon nowadays to see modern rock and metal bands taking the stage in shorts. Like this guy does in the band Walls of Jericho: Aaron Ruby Or this guy from The Plot In You Ethan Yoder

Yeah, those guys may be violating about 50 dozen TalkBass "rules" but remember- nobody ever got famous or changed the world by following the rules.

Trends are reversing. I remember when I was young, it was dorky to pull your socks up and two-strap your backpack. Nowadays, it's the opposite. Socks up and two-strapping it are the cool things to do.

I'm hung up on the fact he put an Alembic tailpiece and bridge on his Guild.

A former Alembic employee did the brass work, but the electronics are bone-stock '67 Guild... Hagstrom Bisonics, even has a (working) baritone "suck" switch. When I gig this one out, to emulate the filter-driven process I'm somewhat used to with the Alembics, I run it through a custom-built Broughton resonant low-pass filter pedal by @Azure Skies.

Never mind the shorts... I'm hung up on the fact that you brought your Alembic...to a water barge gig? :wideyed:

Cue the "Alembics are heavy as a boat anchor" jokes!

Nah man... I'm fortunate enough to have a few of them to pick from. I bought every single one of them to play. If I can't play them out at my gigs, them I don't want them at all. Just me. Besides that, Jeannie keeps a pretty sharp eye on my stuff. :smug:

Why didn't you throw up a canopy? My first thought was "I hope that Alembic doesn't get wet".

Y'know, hindsight... lots to be said for it! I honestly don't know why we don't have one in the van with the PA. Between the five of us regular members, we have at least three E-Z-Up awnings.

I still woulda' wore shorts though. It was 95° on that freakin' dock. What can I say - I woke determined to rebel yesterday. :D

That's Right, my TalkBass Brothers & Sisters... I broke The Rule!

Furthermore, I'm not sorry! It was hotter than dad-gummit here in Southwest Virginia yesterday evening, and I had an outdoor gig from 6:30 - 8:30 last night. Invalid Link Removed

Here's our guitar player, Josh, at load-in. Yeah, the stage is a floating boat dock. Show me the shade. Please. :help:

So I dutifully rolled my rig out that gangway, and set up... in the blistering sun. SPF 60, aerosol. Jeannie made me. I don't wanna' hear it.

Brought along my '89 Alembic 5-string for the main ax:

...and my partly Alembicized '67 Guild Starfire, for a switch-off or back-up:

The shorts (if you're wondering) are a very comfortable, breathable fabric. I'm not nearly as brand-name conscious about them as I am about my bass gear, but I'll check for anybody who's interested. Alembic, Guild, Mesa, BagEnd, that's how I roll. Oh, the cap is from Nike... my Grand-daddy gave it to me. Oh well... another TalkBass fashion faux-pas.

The concert area for the show of course, is the water, but a good many folks set up along the shoreline too. I'm told that the music carries nearly a mile across the lake.

All trolling and jokes aside, it was a pretty fun thing. We had maybe 75-100 folks out on the water last night to play for, a few more on the land, and had a fantastic evening to throw down the newgrass, Harwell-Grice Band style. The Harwell Grice Band

And thanks to a complete disregard of the TalkBass Code, I got through it just fine. :smug:

Go ahead y'all... lemme' have it! Flames?! Report to Mods?! Warning points?! Whatcha' got?!

Outstanding - in shorts! Great post man...
