Ever since I saw the pics of Neil Peart playing his red kit on a raft, I've always thought playing on the water looked like a ridiculously cool thing to do:

Oh. Those things are horrific. I use this kind of flip flops.See, now I am NO fan of thongs/flip flops, whatever you call them. I just find the idea of that piece jammed between my toes horrifyingly uncomfortable.

... but as I said: Not in public.
Ah... since I am Norwegian, the finer nuances of the English language escape me.My kids love those things, they call them "slides" so I guess we weren't on apples to apples there.
I always like picking up some Aussie words... in case I ever make it over thataway for a visit. Thanks @BAG, and goo'day.![]()

In fact, I'm not sure of the correct term in Norwegian, either. A Norwegian web page specializing in shoes simply list a lot of names for these and states the Norwegian proverb "Kjært barn har mange navn", which roughly translates to "A loved child has many names".
In our house we call them "slipperser", which actually would be like "slippers" in English (which probably isn't a word), and I think we use that name because they are easy to slip on.
"Slides" is a good word. I'll try to remember that.
