Got both my Takamine ABG's that way. One on ebay, one here on TB. They've both been great.
UPDATE: I pulled the trigger on a Warwick Alien Rockbass Deluxe electric/acoustic 5-string. I found a great deal with free shipping from MusicStore Live.

My Ibanez EWB5 is a great acoustic. Really clear sound, and cuts through in a big band situation. I highly suggest checking it out.

Yeah If you know you'll be playing plugged in and you want acoustic for the look and tone, I'd definitely go slimline acoustic. SOunds like you won't be playing loud enough to get feedback, but might as well be safe with that.
I like bringing an acoustic to open mic nights, but always play plugged in. ( I just like the look and feel of playing an acoustic in more causal settings ).. and at more than moderate volume it feeds back like crazy.
Just bought Tanglewood ABG. Very cheap (at least here in Finland) and sounds and plays very well. Done some recordings with it allready and producer was more than happy with result
I must say that I agree that the Tanglewood is very nice for the price! When I went on an ABG binge some months ago, I managed to try a nice variation of basses (didn't get to try the Alien, but that is probably a good thing!) and I even bought a couple, only to return them as they were not for me. Out of all of them, the Tanglewood was the one I liked the most, the only reason I didn´t buy it was because of the size of it, but that did result in it also being the loudest of the ones I tried.
(P.S: Congrats on the Alien, I would love to be able to find an excuse to get one!)
The Fender Victor Bailey acoustic also has a small body. It's not super slim front to back, but the whole body is generally small compared to most acoustics.
The only Kingman I played seemed full sized. I'm thinking half the thickness of a full sized or even thinner. A slim semi hollow like a telecaster or double cut LP body with a F hole would probably work for me too.
I did see a Dean Exhibition thin AEB that looks pretty cool.
Do thin lines reduce feedback onstage or do you need to go semi-hollow?

There were a couple of these for sale in the Classifieds, and on evilBay.
Also, Taylors are pretty slim, but the bodies are larger to make up for the (lack of) depth. Plus, they're EXPENSIVE.
I have 2 currently. An ibanez slimline AEB45LG which has minial volume but sounds good plugged in. The stock piezo though is really thin on the D and G strings. About 10 years ago i tried a taylor, martin and tacoma side by side and waited about 10 years until I could afford and find a good tacoma. It is by far the loudest unplugged I've tried out and plays well but does have some neck dive and is a monster to control feed back with the included LR Baggs preamp. Prior to finding it last year i was tempted to try out a boulder creek as well. No places near me carry them but the are supposed to use a similar "floating brace" system that the tacomas used.
They are difficult to find but you cannot beat a Taylor AB-1. Mine is loud, has a super neck and sounds really woody. The downside is they're expensive and the bodies are huge. Larger than any other ABG I have played but they move a lot of air. Love these.

After placing a deposit on the Warwick and waiting 3 weeks, I was informed today that the shipment that came in on 11/22 was sub-standard, and all guitars were returned to the factory to correct QC issues. NOT GOOD!!!
I am canceling this order ASAP. I have a bad feeling about the whole deal, and think there is likely a better way to go.
Breedlove once made an acoustic 5er (ABJ250/SM5), but it appears to no longer be available. I'm confirming this now. I have been reading lots of user reviews, and the Breedloves get a lot of positive feedback.
The Ovation 5er seems to be extinct as well. If I can't find one of these, I'm backing out and sticking with my electric for acoustic gigs.
