Actually, there has been such a device, the Gizmotron. Initially invented by two guys from the band 10cc(Godley and Creme)decades ago, it suffered from being an idea that the technology of the time wasn’t up to supporting properly. It was brought back in this century, even a bass specific model, but was met with a lack of enthusiasm.
