(Yet) Another Mjt Jazz Bass Build!

Hello,


I really like Jazz Basses. As some of you know, I am quite fond of vintage Jazz Basses. I was browsing online and I saw this Blonde Stack Knob in a private collection, supposedly one of the first Jazz Basses ever made.

I then saw a blonde over ash Jazz body by mjt on reverb…

So now it’s gonna happen.

So yeah. Should be a cool addition to the Jazz Bass horde alongside my 65 J and my other mjt build in fiesta red (whenever that arrives).

It’s getting all the nice typical Bass4ThePublic parts build stuff, tort by Lavaguards (seen on the body), Gotoh Res O Lites, Musikraft neck, etc etc.

Going to try and make it as close to a real 1960 Jazz Bass as possible. I have some Thud Muffin mutes ready to go, and I’m going to make a stack knob circuit with the original style resistors.


Musikraft is offering some super cool neck specs as of recent, so I tried to make everything as accurate as possible. Slab board, dark rosewood, clay dots with a Fender Custom shop 1960 U profile, and the new “59 truss rod” option which is a more vintage Fender spec.

Ok, got pretty much everything hardware wise. I went with a set of Duncan Antiquities instead of the Brantleys. Should be done by this fall maybe? Don’t know what strings I want to put on it. I have a set of the Olinto Flats and the Ian Martin Allison rounds, both by Labella. I even custom made a bridge ground strap using measurements taken from a real 1960 Jazz Bass.

Kind of off topic, but what has been your experience in getting pickguards from Lavaguard? Were they easy to deal with? Did you custom order or just buy one of the available ones listed? I like the looks and prices of their guards in comparison to Spitfire guards and might be looking to pick one up for my ‘63 American Vintage P, which has the awful standard Fender tort guard…

Super easy to deal with. I bought one of the available one he posts every other month via paypal, and it arrived within the week.
