Someone gone a bit crazy with a belt sander? With the position of the strap buttons I can only imagine that it's meant to be played upright?

So...a person takes a hacksaw and a sander to a $400 bass and then calls it a "custom"? If I only knew I could have made my own line of "custom" basses years ago.

I mean, the woods look nice, fretboard actually looks OK, but they can't honestly think that it's this shape for a bass that gets the youth of today out of their chairs...

Actually, that used to be something rather nice and rare and significantly more than $400 when new, most likely an SB1200. Makes it even worse. :^(

Three words..needs a tremolo.You cannot mess this bass up any further than altering its natural shape.

I don't know about you guys but I would require a heavily armored case for something that sweet.

I'm at a complete loss for words here. If you did this to your bass, you'd come on here (TB) BEGGING for someone to give you $100 and BEGGING forgiveness for being so stupid. If you were SMART about it, you'd dismantle it and burn the body Thanks for pointing this out Thunderitter....

'Offered by Dean Johnson's Music, Inc.' I've been in that store, once; it's the only music store in Zephyrhills. They had tons of Michael Kelly stuff in the store, and Traben, too. All of it overpriced, naturally. Zephyrhills is a small town, and I gig there somewhat regularly, but I've never seen anybody there playing a Michael Kelly or Traben, or butchered Ibanez, for that matter.

I kinda like the pseudo Warwick Dolphin-esque (?) or Zon Vinny vibe on this thing, but I'm generally not a fan of basses that have been "hacked" however artfully or not.

I hope that in the future, via the existence of TB and the internet and all the luthiers/makers that can be found, that people will just decide to go with a truly custom bass from the get-go, rather than drastically modding instruments in this fashion.

I wonder if this instrument continues to have the resonance and tone that it used to? I suspect not, and that's why it's being sold. It might make for good art now, but maybe not for good music any more? Who knows?

Its an SB1200 from 1991. would be good if i could read a SN# off the pics to be certain but i'm pretty sure thats what it is...
