Yorkville/Traynor Club?!

Ugg, I might have to revoke my Traynor Club membership.

I just got word from my local shop that my YBA200, which was sent away about a month ago to be fixed under warranty, came back with a $200 bill for new tubes, which ISN'T going to be covered by Yorkville even after the store tried repeatedly to figure out WHY we were being charged.

So now I have to pay $200 for my own amp, and then it's just going to sit on top of my V-4B and I'm going to look all cranky at it :scowl:

Could be the shop trying to make some money. Try contacting Traynor yourself and ask. How long have you had the amp? Why a warranty fix?

Nah, I know the guys at the shop personally and they even went to bat on my behalf with Yorkville trying to figure out the charges. No luck.
I bought the amp brand new last fall, probably?

It blew out in the middle of a normal set at a normal club with perfect settings (proper speaker cable, BRAND NEW ampeg 610 cab, etc.)
It was a simple fix, but I figured Yorkville had this great rep for warranties and standing by their product and all that, so I had the shop send it back under the understand that I would pay shipping one way.

Anyway, I have a couple leads for further investigation (email address of the local rep, and some help from a fellow TB member as well).

Hey here's a link to the warranty info on the Traynoramps.com site: http://traynoramps.com/default.asp?p1=7&p2=0&p_id=29

Hope you stick it out with the amp, sorry it blew on you in the middle of a show...I can't stand it when something goes wrong with my rig mid show...like a bad cable last week, grrr....

Or a dead battery? ;)

My YBA200 blew mid-gig, too; I had it a year, but I bought it used. Apparently RevGroove hooked me up with an extended warranty and it was covered, but it would've cost ~$200

Oh no, forgot about THAT gig, a Juno event...VERY embarrassing!

All of these stories of a YBA200 blowing mid gig are getting a little scary. Then there's a $200 charge with each story, and replaced tubes. Is there something blowing tubes, and that's what you're getting charged for (the set of tubes)?

Quoth the warrenty:

"If this product should fail for any reason within two years of the original purchase date (ten years for the wooden enclosure), simply return it to your Traynor dealer with original proof of purchase and it will be repaired free of charge"

Key words: for any reason, free of charge.
Hopefully I can get this all worked out.

They are pretty good with customer service issues, they want to keep their customers happy. I'm sure this will all be worked out very, very soon for the better.

Wow! It sure did.

I just talked to the shop and they got a call from Yorkville saying they would cover the repair charges!

I'm pretty happy with Yorkville now... I really appreciate there being a company that size with boutique sized service.

Thanks so much for your help Subculture13!

This place is great... I'll probably kick some of the money that would have gone into the amp towards a TB membership now! :smug:

What luck! I was searching for info on my old Traynor and found this place. I've been using my trusty TS120B for so long that I can't remember what kind of speakers are in it to get them reconed. I even called up Traynor, and my amp is so old, that they don't even remember what kind of speakers they put in it!

I had the ole gray thing since 1981. It has been extremely reliable all these years. The amp finally took a well deserved break couple of weeks ago. I sent it up to Traynor for repair.
The TS120B is rated at only 120 watts, but this thing kicks ass, has no problem keeping up with my guitar players 100 watt Marshall w/4-12 cab.

I've anguished over getting a new amp, and what kind? In the end we usually go with what we know. I just got a couple of Traynor XS400H heads. I'll use one to power the 2-15" cabs I already have with the 120B. I'll figure out the rest later.

Here's a pic of my old work horse.
