You Guys Are A Bad Influence

I’ve had bad gas lately. Keep telling myself that a new bass won’t make me a better bass player. But I’ve had an itch and I needed a project. So here goes.

I’ve had this Squier CV 60s Jazz Bass for a couple years. I’d previously sanded the neck because I hate lacquered necks and it plays wonderfully.

I’m not a huge fan of VVT controls so I decided to start modding and ordered a Richter VBT control set. Then I decided I wanted some new pups too. So I ordered a set of Delano JMVC4s. And what they hell, why not add a Badass II bridge? Added one of those to the cart. Oh, and tuners. Gotta have new tuners, right? So I added a set of Hipshot HB7s.

But you know what else? I’m tired of the boring 3 tone sunburst. My #1 is an EBMM in tobacco burst that’s gorgeous, but variety is the spice of life. And I’m REALLY digging this Capri Orange with the tort look.

Sooooooo, here we are. Parts on the way. Going to try to match the Capri Orange and finish with a Satin Poly. Pray for me. I must be insane.

Out of curiosity:
By "VVT", do you really mean "Volume - Volume - Tone", or do you mean "Volume - Volume - Blend"? (The Invalid Link Removed says "Master Tone".)
To me, the answer matters. Some of my Harley Benton gear (two basses and a resonator guitar) features "VVB", and I'm considering yet another guitar for this very feature.

Change the neck, pick guard, jack and knobs next, then you can make a Squier 60s J from the leftover bits.

I love GAS. I buy a new bass not because think it will make me a better bass player, but for the look and to specifically modify it. I only play bass uke, 21" scale. Recently I found that only one style and configuration is the most comfortable to play because of nerve damage to my neck spinal cord from radiation treatments for cancer long ago. It's a RondoMusic Hadean violin style Hofner knock off. I have 8, planning to go a couple more, at least. It comes in the traditional sunburst and in black.

I'm the king of GAS, having gone through 54 bass ukes/mini bass guitars from 20.5" to 24" scale, active and passive, poly strings and different flats in the last 9 years. My goal was for them to be different from each other, which I now have done with paint and style cues. I have the partly adjustable floating wood bridge/piezo pickup saddle assembly replaced with a fully adjustable all metal bridge that has a piezo pickup in each saddle. Also replace the cheap Chinese bass uke tuning machines with Gotoh or HipShot light, and use Kala/Galli flatwound nylon core strings exclusively.

Eric's Guitar Shop does all the mods, and Pat Wilkins does the paint. One advantage to using the same bass uke configured the same way is they all play the same, no need to get used to a different scale or strings or feel.
