I would buy a pristine custom color 1957 Precision bass and mod the hell out of it.
Strip the finish, EMG pickups, rout it for Jazz & Mudbucker PUs, Bad Ass bridge, maybe hammer in a zero fret, and I'd document the whole process with a thread here on TB.

And I'd give it to the Pastorius family.
Then I'd go buy a 70's Fender Jazz and have Bootsy Collins eat and sleep with it in hopes his mojo rubs off on it.

I've never seen so much attention to details, ever. I thought there were some crazy ocd builders in TB, but i have only read up until where he starts working the neck and i'm already in shock.
Screw the gear-grab! If I came into that much money I would put $3 million in tax-exempt muni bonds, quit my day job to become a traveling academic nomad, and donate the remaining $97 million to those less fortunate.
Reminds me of a stat I heard the other day: If Warren Buffett were to give away 99% of his fortune, he'd have $450 million left over.

I'd take a Linc Luthier Doubleneck, 8-string on top, 4-string on bottom. SIMMs custom LED side & fingerboard markers, and some amazing hand-picked figured woods.
