The burrito was invented in SF after all. South of the border, aside from tourist areas catering to Americans, Mexicans don't seem to know what burritos are.

FYI, Burritos are Mexican, but in Mexico they are considered "northern" cuisine, along with anything else involving flour tortillas. Mexico's north is sparsely populated and generally looked down upon by people further south, so it is true that most Mexicans have never had a burrito.

And a huge +1 for taco trucks. It can be a little weird eating at a roach coach if you're not used to that but many offer good and affordable food. The exceptional ones around here get 30 minute waits going around lunchtime.

Californians also have a different idea of what a burrito is than most parts of the country. It's fun when friends from back home visit and I get to introduce them to real burritos.

You might be a Californian if.... the thought of having to move to an inner state, like the "bible belt" states, is like a death sentence. I have always lived near the Pacific ocean: I would want to live in a land-locked state. I might survive in Oregon or Washington state.

Important matters deserve serious discussion.

For those in the Bay Area, I was raised on Gordo's which is admittedly a similar formula to Chipotle, but neither has much in common with the typical SoCal burrito. I suspect it's a regional difference much like BBQ is around the south or pizza can be between NY and Chicago.

Mmmmmmm. Gordo's. I used to hit the one down by the Four Star movie house on a regular basis. Carnitas super, double meat. nomnomnom.

There are...I've just never sought one out. There's also an Ethiopian place. I've never tried Ethiopian.

I've had Ethiopian a few times...can't really call myself a fan. Their curry is pretty interesting and worth a try though IMO

Any in and around OC may want to try this place...mexican/bolivian, and sometimes they have Peruvian on their menu. Other times Japanese, I don't quite get it but always fresh and delicious nonetheless

Do you have a Chipotles near you? Not a huge fan of them but they make real burritos. They're basically a fancy taco truck.

Burritos shouldn't cost me >$9. Chipotle is therefore not a real burrito.

I grew up in Long Beach...I was only maybe 2 or 3 miles closer to the water than I am now. There is a marked difference in the lack of sea breeze in the air, and I absolutely hate that about Tustin
