You opened for WHOM???

Very cool experiences, Marcello!! :bassist:

1) Thanks! I kinda grew up around celebrity, and so I never really made much of a deal over anyone...so as for the hotel breakfast with Diz; It didn't even strike me as all that much of a big deal at the time, but in retrospect I've thought to myself "man, just how cool was that?...breakfast with Dizzy!". The cat just came over, and sat down with me. I suppose if I ever do a jazz record myself, I might just call it "breakfast w/Dizzy". Too cool. Makes me smile.

2) How'd you know my first name? It isn't in my profile...

3) One "L" (thus pronounced "selo" not "cello") :D

I've had the good fortune of opening for some cool bands over the years. Ratdog, The Neville Brothers, Jerry Garcia Band, Alman Bros Band, Hot Tuna, Barbarito Torres (Buena Vista Social Club), Del McCroury, ARU, Sipes Hellborg and Lane, Little Feat, The Meters, Gov't Mule, Derek Trucks, The Radiators, Widespread Panic, Merle Saunders. Also did some shows on HORDE tour which was pretty fun. The coolest thing though was once we were playing a private party for the Furtherfest in Denver. Some guys from The Other Ones and Hot Tuna showed up and wanted to play a set on our gear. We said fine but Jack casady didn't show up so I ended up playing the whole night with them. It was a trip to play some of those songs with , you know, the guys who really play those songs. Oteil sat in with us a few times and man that's intimidating. I resigned myself to sit back and play groove and let him be Oteil.

some of these may only be famous to me. Let' see...

Mose Allison,
Robyn Hitchcock
John Doe
? and the Mysterians
The B- 52s
10,000 Manaics
The Smithereens
Boo Radleys
Supergrass
Juliana Hatfield (and she's my neighbor, too)
Sloan
Edwin McCain
The Samples
Jimmy Cliff
Velvet Crush
Letters To Cleo
Better Than Ezra
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Rev. Horton Heat
The Selecter (classic 2 tone ska band)
The Slackers
The village People (no, really)

and I've worked with Al Kooper (and he played at my wedding), Powerman 5000, T Bone Burnett, Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix producer) and used to play with the drummer from the Wallflowers- I've opened a lot of things for him; doors, sodas, letters.

For most of those I was with 2 bands out of Boston Called Jiggle the Handle and Hypnotic Clambake. For some of the bluegrass people I was with The Recipe. All three were vastly different bands, but they were all pretty good. You grew up in Boston, right? Ever get out to a Jiggle show?

Yeah let's see... I know that I have see y'all at Harper's Ferry, Middle East and Pearl street in NoHo (on of those might have been double billed with Percy Hill or my boys from The Slip)... can't remember if I had seen y'all at Great Woods (sorry, Tweeter-woods :hmm: ) for HORDE, it was mid 90's and Blues Traveler were on the bill too... LOt's of stuff about the 90's that don't recall :smug: .

Were you with them for Jiggle the Creek? w/Max Creek.

You in Asheville now? Ever done the Orange Peel?

Yeah I did a bunch of Jiggle the Creek shows. I'm actually doing a gig next week with Scott Murawski, (guitar Creek) and Vasso (drums Jiggle) up in Worcester. I've been in Asheville for a couple years now. The Peel is a great club. I'm usually on the road these days though. Playing with Acoustic Junction next week, too. That should be cool. And yeah, playing at the "Tweeter" center was cool. We did HORDE and Allman's there. And the "PNC band" center in NJ, Darien lake and Jones beach ampitheater in NY plus some others I can't remember. We're going to do some Jiggle reunion shows this spring. I'll drop you a line when I'm coming to hotlanta. Ever get to Asheville?

I have opened for lots of blues acts, off the top of my head: Roomful of Blues, Ronnie Earl, Tab Benoit, Jimmy Rogers, James Cotton, Kenny Neal, Long John Hunter, W.C. Clark and Nick Moss & the Flip Tops.

When Led Zeppelin was touring to support Led Zeppelin II, the James Gang (w/Joe Walsh) were the opening band. We snuck into a show in Buffalo, NY and got to meet the band...and we were offered backstage passes to the show 2 days later in Syracuse, NY. We went, the road manager got us and took us back. We talked to Jimmy Page for about 2 hours and Page autographed my friend's Firebird. He was a gracious, regular kind of guy

I think Zep opened for Vanilla Fudge when they toured the US initially (talk about a horror story - having them opening for you lol) but I was thinking somewhere that Moby Grape opened for them, too.

- Rick Derringer (in Prov RI and Laconia, NH)
- jammed with Vernon Reid once (in Philly)(played 'Crosstown Traffic', btw)
- Sevendust
- DropBox
(jammed with Sully Erna a few times)
then, - Godsmack
- Revellie
- Robert Cray (although that was like an all-day blues festival)
