ok, I guessed I must of missed it.. So acordion players has what to do with a Bass players forum in what way again ?

Because early Ampeg amplifiers had an 'accordion' input, perhaps? How about a little Polkacide?

Gogol Bordello has an accordion player that is crucial to their sound. It's not an exciting or sexy instrument to play live, but I think it can work great with certain types of music.

EDIT: What's your favorite accordion for metal? (I'm not proud about that, but someone had to ask.)

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Los Lobos' David Hidalgo, it's a big part of their sound...



The squeezebox was there in early Rock'n'Roll...

I'll give you a round-about tie-in.

Bass players love Ampeg. C. Everett Hull, Ampeg's founder, hated rock, and was convinced that guitar music was going to fade from favor and that accordion would make a big comeback. He decreed that all Ampeg guitar amps were required to also have an accordion input. And so it was, until Hull sold the controlling interest in Ampeg to Uni Music. Ampeg even made accordion-specific pickups.

We have a friend who is a quite excellent accordion player. Something that shouldn't have surprised me because it seems so obvious in retrospect, is that there exist accordion synthesizers, and he has one. I guess it's played exactly like a regular accordion (though I can't say exactly what function pumping the bellows has), but it has about two hundred sounds available at the touch of a button. He didn't run through the sounds for us, but I'm amused imagining an accordion sounding like a Moog or a Hammond. (And what just popped into my head, because it works that way, was the thought of doing Tarkus in a polka style.)

I can't find the thread but there was a video on a TB thread of a metal band with accordian player. He gets some very out-there synth and dirt sounds and is a big part of that bands mix.
