Your favorite bass, ever?

That's a great question. Thinking about it made me realize that I've never owned that ONE favorite bass. My ear for tone has been in a state of flux in my 30 or so years of playing bass, and I've never been in a long-term musical situation that demanded I use the same bass-same tone all the time. That's been both a good and bad thing I suppose. Ah well. Thanks for asking. #Food4Thought

My ‘51 P bass that I put together. FAT neck with a rosewood board and an overwound Fralin pickup. This thing kills!

I tend to make my favorite basses fretless, and I have so many wonderful examples of those.

for fretted the black Gibson EB is truly and amazing bass, and I keep getting tempted to make it fretless, but she really needs to be what she is. Sound, feel, playability, all perfection.

(The Ric is already fretless and pink, the JMJ mustang is going antigua, but staying fretted also)

I agree with the statement, “That’s like asking which of your children do you love the most!” Each of my babies are loved and appreciated for different reasons. Two in particular (from left...#2 Pavel & #4 Warrior) are loved for their light weight while retaining great balance & tone. Ohhh, and the Ibanez Portamento 6,hidden in the back corner, is loved for her fretless mawhh . The other three are loved for their playability, tones, and aesthetic beauty!
